Sportsmanship, Moss, minors

By now, you have probably heard of the college softball game, where the opponents carried an injured runner around the bases after she hit a home run. It has nothing to do with the Red Sox, but it's a great story. The Oregonian has a follow-up story.

Back to the Red Sox. Brandon Moss' wonderful day Friday was followed by a horrible Saturday. Moss underwent an emergency appendectomy at Mass. General Hospital.

Moss is reported to be doing well, but he will be on the DL for around a month.

In the minors, Pawtucket and Portland are losing on the road. Pawtucket's David Pauley was roughed up (4 IP 8 H 7 R 2 BB 1 K) in an 8-5 loss at Syracuse.

Portland lost to Trenton 6-3. The Sea Dogs are now 0-5 on their road trip, and tied with the Thunder for first place.

In Lancaster, catcher Jon Still (.319, 8 homers) went 3-for-5, going deep once.

Mike Jones (.415) keeps on keeping on in Greenville, going 2-for-4 Saturday.

Can you name the 7 players in the Red Sox 2003 draft (Theo's first) that are still in affiliated baseball? See the story.

Kevin covers baseball for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He first reported on spring training games for the St. Petersburg Times in 1978. He wisely moved to Maine in 1994 and now writes about the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox—when he's not coaching Little League baseball.

He is married to Nancy, and the couple recently completed their lineup card with the birth of their ninth child.
