Lowrie, Snyder, Kottaras, & more

Reports out of Cleveland are that Jed Lowrie will make his Major League debut Tuesday against the Indians.

The Red Sox also announced that pitcher Kyle Snyder, who was designated for assignment, has accepted a spot on the Triple-A Pawtucket roster.

Pawtucket certainly enjoyed some individual performances Monday in a doubleheader split with Louisville, paced by George Kottaras (2 home runs, 5 RBI) in the second game.

In the first game, starter Chris Smith threw well in the 3-2 loss, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned), 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. His ERA sits at 1.86.

But with Smith temporarily filling in for the injured Bartolo Colon, is he the one Snyder replaces on the Pawtucket roster? And if Smith comes back to Portland, who goes?

Following Smith in Monday's first game was reliever Craig Hansen. He retired the one batter he faced to keep his ERA at 0.00.

In the second game, Pawtucket won 8-2. Kottaras, hitting as the DH, shined, as did catcher Dusty Brown (2-for-3 with a double). Brown is batting .333.

Charlie Zink won the second game with five ininngs of one-hit, shutout ball. He walked one and struck out four.

This really is a predicament, to have so many good players you don't have room for them all. Maybe trade-up to a west-coast team that's rebuilding young for a major league-quality proven pitcher. After all it's only money.
