High on Richardson
When the Boston Red Sox invited Dustin Richardson to its selective Rookie Camp in the off-season, it raised an eyebrow or two, since he skipped over some prospects not invited (including Sea Dogs teammate Kris Johnson).
So far, so good.
Richardson, 24, a tall lefty with a decpetive fastball, made his Double-A debut Monday night, He struck out the first five batters he faced.
Richardson finished with a two-hitter over five innings (both hits coming in the fifth), allowing no runs, while striking out 10.
Richardson was pitching in frigid weather, which normally hinders the batter ... although Sea Dogs leadoff batter Sean Danielson was not bothered by it, going 4-for-6.
In Pawtucket, Chris Carter (.301 lifetime minor league hitter) went 2-for-5 and is batting .444 ... Bobby Kielty homered.
In Lancaster, the Jethawks' game with Island Empire was suspended after 15 innings, with the score tied 3-3.
I'll check in later from Fenway.
