Infield problem almost canceled game
The start of the Portland Sea Dogs game tonight in New Britain was in doubt until just a few minutes ago.
New Britain has installed a new field and apparently there are problems with the infield dirt around the bases. It was recently dug up and is very soft.
The teams were not allowed on the field before the game. Sea Dogs manager Arnie Beyeler did not know why until the umpires requested that he look at the infield.
Beyeler agreed to play the game, but also said if a safety concern surfaces during the game, it may be postponed.
Here is the Sea Dogs lineup:
Sean Danielson, RF
Tony Granadillo, 3B
Bubba Bell, CF
Aaron bates, 1B
Zach Daeges, LF
Mark Wagner, C
Jay Johnson, DH
Ryan Khoury, 2B
Iggy Suarez, SS
(Justin Masterson, P)
Third baseman Andrew Pinckney is not in the lineup. Beyeler said there was no particular reason, except that Pinckney bats left and New Britain is starting lefty Ryan Mullins.
