Buchholz in (for now), Hertzler out

Was looking at this quote from Clay Buchholz's quote from his latest outing, in the first exhibition game in Japan (3.2 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs):

"I left a couple of pitches up over the plate and that hurt."

Got a feeling that Buchholz will be saying that often this year as he continues trying to master command of his fastball.

Also wondering if Buchholz will make the major league team. Sox may want Buchholz getting more work in Pawtucket, rather than being the No. 5 starter.

That would leave Julian Tavarez and Kyle Snyder as Boston's other options ... which does not instill confidence.

Saw on soxprospects.com that Barry Hertzler was released. Hertzler, who pitched well in Portland off and on for the past three seasons, struggled in Pawtucket. He is 28 and time ran out, especially with Boston's crowd of relievers in Triple-A.

Here's the current list of Pawtucket pitchers: (More cuts are coming)
Dan Kolb, Craig Hansen, Edgar Martinez, Lee Gronkiewicz, Jon Switzer, Matt Miller, Lincoln Holdzkom, Dan Miceli, Ben Howard, Chris Smith, Abe Alvarez, Miguel Asencio, David Thorne, Mike Conroy.

you are forgetting about Colon who is much more likely than either Tavarez or Snyder.

The Sox won't need the 5th starter until mid April. In his Yankee start, he was hitting 95 & 96 on the YES radar gun and contrary to what some are speculating, the YES gun doesn't seem to be out of line with other guns and the other pitchers weren't getting faster readings than they normally do.
