Game 3 recap

Jacoby Ellsbury going 4-for-5. Dustin Pedroia 3-for-5. How did that 1-2 punch look Saturday? How about today? How about for years to come?

The Rockies walked Manny Ramirez intentionally and Mike Lowell again came through with a two-RBI double. Why is there doubt that the Red Sox will re-sign him?

How about Terry Francona slipping back seemlessly into a NL manager, making two double switches, bringing in Coco Crisp with Hideki Okajima, and Alex Cora with Jonathan Papelbon? Crisp later singles, and Cora puts down a sacrifice bunt that leads to the last run.

Julio Lugo came up big defensively. Sixth inning: With runners on 1st and 2nd. Lugo reaches a hard grounder in the hole and gets off a throw to Lowell to nab the lead runner ... Sixth inning: With two runners on and two outs, Lugo leaps to snare a hard, high line drive.

Here is a look back at the third inning:
Ellsbury doubles to left
Pedroia bunt single
Ortiz doubles ... Ellsbury scores
Ramirez intentionally walked
Lowell single to center ... Pedroia & Ortiz score
Drew pops up to short
Varitek singles ... Ramirez thrown out at home
Lugo walks
Matsuzaka singles to left ... Lowell and Varitek score
Ellsbury doubles to left-center ... Lugo scores
Pedroia grounds out
Score: Boston 6, Colorado 0

The 8th inning:
Varitek grounds out
Lugo walks
Crisp singles to center
Ellsbury doubles to right ... Lugo scores
Pedroia doubles to right ... Crisp and Ellsbury score
Score: Boston 9, Colorado 5

The 9th inning
Lowell singles to center
Cora sacrifice bunt (Lowell to second)
(Lowell steals third)
Varitek sacrifice fly to right ... Lowell scores
Lugo grounds out
Score: Boston 10, Colorado 5

If you believe some of the reports, the Red Sox are reluctant to offer Lowell a long-term deal, since he'll be 34 soon. Yet there have to be teams out there that will give him 4 years at big money after the season he had.

Are the Red Sox willing to give him $50-55 million for 4 years? They may have to to keep him, especially if the Yankees lose A-Rod and need a third baseman.

JB,

While I love to speculate about the offseason as much as anyone else, let's give it a rest for one day... Let's not mention the Red Sox. Let's not mention what may or may not happen in November and December.

Let's enjoy today for what it could be... one of the most important days in Red Sox history. Not about free agents to be or those damn Yankees.

Today is about history. About the 25 guys on that team and Red Sox Nation.

Go Sox!
