Snyder replaces Wakefield
Here's another surprise from the Red Sox, who just announced their 25-man World Series roster.
With Tim Wakefield out (see previous blog), pitcher Kyle Snyder is replacing him.
The Red Sox were not available for comment so there is no explaining the move (yet).
Even before the Wakefield news, the speculation was that Julian Tavarez may be put on the roster to replace Eric Gagne.
When Wakefield was scratched, it seemed obvious that Tavarez would get a spot. He pitched 34 games (23 starts) with a 5.15 ERA. He may be the only true long reliever on the staff.
But Gagne stays on the roster, and Snyder is also on. Snyder, once a starter, made 46 appearances this year out of the pen (3.81 ERA). He has not thrown more than two innings in a game this year.
That just about guarantees that Jon Lester will pitch Game 4.
