Wakefield off roster again
Terry Francona and Tim Wakefield just announced that Wakefield would not be available for the World Series because of the continued pain in his right shoulder.
Francona said the starter for Game 4 is TBA, although Jon Lester is being considered. He pitched four innings today to stretch out.
Francona did not announce the roster for the World Series. He did say J.D. Drew would start in right field Wednesday, against lefty Jeff Francis, and that Jacoby Ellsbury will start in center.
Center fielder Coco Crisp, who lost the starting job in the ALCS, may have been considered for the starting job, but Francona said Crisp is still a little beat up from running into the wall in center to make the final out in Game 7 against the Indians.
Wakefield said the Red Sox had planned to start him in Games 2 and 6. Wakefield said he did not know if he could recover in time to pitch Game 6. He also said doctors advised against pitching at all because he could do permanent damage to the shoulder.
Curt Schilling will pitch Game2, and Daisuke Matsuzaka Game 3.
Wakefield described the problem an inflammation. He said he still has hopes to pitch next year.
Wakefield was also held out of the divisional series, but pitched one game in the ALCS.
