In control
The race is on. I've listed below the standings and the remaining games for the Red Sox, Yankees, Indians and Angels.
But this week is all about gravy, pride and home-field advantage for the Red Sox. They are already in the playoffs.
Boston can win the division (gravy and pride). It leads New York by 2 1/2 games. The magic number is six.
And the Red Sox can have home field advantage for the playoffs.
Boston leads Cleveland by a half-game, and the Angels by 1 game for the rights to the best record in baseball. Should Boston finish tied with either of those two teams, it wins the tiebreaker (head-to-head record) and gets home-field advantage.
Here is how it looks:
Boston 92-63
Cleveland 91-63
LA Angels 61-64
Yankees 89-65
Boston and the Angels have 7 games to go; Cleveland and New York 8 games.
