What they said
Some comments after the Red Sox-Yankees game Sunday:
Joe Torre: "Schilling was great. His pitch count if you look up there was in the 60's and 70's. He just left a splitter up to Jeter, who has been a big game player for a long, long time.
Terry Francona: "He got through that lineup until Jeter's home run ... using all his pitches, locating. He looked really, really good."
Curt Schilling: "I just hung a split ... until the eighth, we did a lot of good things."
Francona: "I don't like seeing (Jeter) come up in situations like that."
More Francona: "(Clemens) certainly hasn't forgotten how to pitch or compete ... He doesn't give in. He stays out of the middle, uses his breaking ball."
Torre (on Dustin Pedroia): "Pedroia scares the (heck) out of you because he doesn't tip-toe up there. He gets his money's worth."
Francona (on Pedroia's lengthy at-bat in the ninth): "For a kid with a year in the big leagues, he plays like a veteran. That will only get better."
Schilling: "What do we have, 12 games left? I'd rather be 4 1/2 up than 4 1/2 down."
