Magical night
You wonder if a night like Tuesday's will be one of those turn-around games for the Red Sox. They win with a rally in the bottom of the ninth. Get great starting pitching from Jon Lester and solid relief, including a socreless inning from Eric Gagne.
Welcome to the boos-to-cheers way of Fenway Park, Mr. Gagne.
Hope to be at today's game (the Escort's been acting up). Maybe Terry Francona will announce the second starter for Friday's doubleheader. While the speculation builds for Clay Buchholz, they could still go with Julian Tavarez.
If the nod goes to Buchholz, a spot on the 25-man roster will have to be made. Here's a thought. Wily Mo Pena gets traded/released to make room for Buchholz. After Buchholz pitches, he goes back to Pawtucket, and Bobby Kielty is called up to Boston.
Both Buchholz and Kielty will have to be put on the 40-man roster, but there is room, especially if Pena goe, as well as Brendan Donnelly being done for the year, and David Murphy gone to Texas (Murphy, by the way, is hitting .556 in seven games).
Back to Tuesday night; The game took on more magic because I sat in the bleachers with three of my boys. It was the debut for 6-year-old Aidan, and to watch his eyes as he walked through the concourse and saw the field for the first time in person ... the Citgo Sign, the Monster, Papi taking batting practice. As the credit card commercial says: Priceless.
