Lowrie promoted
Jed Lowrie became the third high profile prospect to be promoted from Portland to Triple-A Pawtucket, following outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and pitcher Clay Buchholz.
While Lowrie has played shortstop all year, he played the last two games at second base, the position he played in college. It's likely that Lowrie will play both middle infield spots for Ron Johnson.
Lowrie, one of those prized prospects drafted in 2005 (along with Ellsbury, Buchholz and Craig Hansen), had an off year in Class A Wilmington last season, mainly due to injury.
In Portland, he showed the style the Red Sox love in a player: He gets on base, with a .410 on-base percentage. Lowrie batted .297, with a team-leading 8 home runs and 49 RBI.
