All Stars, zzzzzz
Missed a couple of blogging days because of my son's college summer orientation in Baltimore (Loyola). My son received his schedule for the fall and I got a nifty cap with a Greyhound on it. All it cost was $45,000.
Exciting All Star Game last night and none of the fans in my family saw it. My 6-year-old, Aidan, loves the game, but MLB and Fox TV have decided they don't want young fans by starting the game so late (yeah, I'll be griping about the World Series, too).
I remember gathering around with my friends, trading a few baseball cards (because it was fun, not because it was an investment), and watching the All Stars.
My 10-year Keegan likes baseball, but does not love it. With the game so late, he passed. Once, a few years ago, he desperately wanted to watch the game but was told it was too late.
My 18-year-old and I listened to the game on the radio, driving away from the airport. We then watched a few innings, but then it was time for him to leave with friends for the new Harry Potter movie. And, frankly, I wish I had a ticket.
I watched the game but, being wiped out from orientation, I fell asleep before the end.
Some of the game was thrilling, especially Ichiro's inside-the-park home run. But the game should have been earlier. Baseball is losing fans, especially young ones. It doesn't care as long as the TV check is good.
