How about Delcarmen
Driving home from Manchester late last night was made easier by listening to the Red Sox game in San Diego.
Obviously, Dice-K is the story, but I found the performance of another pitcher just as interesting. Manny Delcarmen pitched to two batters (both outs) in the seventh inning of a one-run game.
Note: Get used to seeing the "other Manny" around.
Delcarmen has now appeared in four games (3 games during his recent call-up). He has allowed no runs, no hits and two walks. And the fact that Terry Francona opted for him in the late innings, in a tight game, means Delcarmen has the confidence of his manager.
In case you were not up in the ninth inning, David Murphy got up to bat and struck out. Murphy got the call to join the Red Sox, over Brandon Moss, for an obvious reason: he's been in the majors before. Francona simply wanted a back-up (with some experience) for three games in a National League park.
In Triple-A, Sea Dogs outfielder Brian Pritz is filling Murphy's spot for Pawtucket. He pinch-hit last night and singled.
Back to the Sea Dogs game, a 21-hit night is sure to beef up the averages. Jeff Corsaletti and Jed Lowrie, batting 1-2 in the lineup, both went 4-for-6. Lowrie is now batting .306, Corsaletti .298.
In advanced Class A Lancaster, Bubba Bell hit his 18th home run, but he ONLY went 1-for-3, so his averaged dropped to .354.
In Class A Greenville, teenager Lars Anderson continues to stroke (2-for-3, now batting .325).
