On the other hand ...
Maybe J.D. Drew is the ideal leadoff man.
It figures that the night after I proclaim a dire need for a new leadoff hitter for Boston, namely, Jacoby Ellsbury, that Drew goes 3-for-4 with 3 runs and 3 RBI.
Meanwhile, Ellsbury went 0-for-4 in Pawtucket, as the PawSox mustered only two hits against Richmond.
It will be curious how long Drew stays at leadoff. Terry Francona has always found comfort zones for some of his players (Mike Lowell prefers sixth over fifth; Bill Mueller liked batting eighth; and David Ortiz likes third over fourth - of course, with Manny protecting him).
Drew was signed for millions to give Boston some oomph at the five hole. But, hey, if batting first brings the results that Friday brought, then keep him there for now.
When he does move back to fifth, hopefully Boston will have figured out its leadoff spot (you know who I think should be there).
