Boss, Roger, prospects
George Streinbrenner is focusing in on his scapegoat. It looks like Roger Clemens will miss Fenway afterall, and Friday night was a good one for some of the Red Sox prospects.
In an interview with the Associated Press, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, a.k.a. The Boss, said this about the Yankees struggles and general manager Brian Cashman: "He's on a big hook. He wanted sole authority. He got it. Now he's got to deliver." As much as I have never been a fan of George's people skills, he has a point.
Even with Clemens pitching Monday for Triple-A Scranton, Yankees manager Joe Torre said Clemens would likely not pitch for New York until the following Monday (missing the Red Sox series in Fenway).
Spoke to a scout who saw Clemens go against the Sea Dogs. He said "If he pitches like that (in Triple-A or the majors), he won't last past four innings."
Now for a quick look around the Red Sox minor league teams last night: Kason Gabbard picked up the win in a so-so outing for Pawtucket (5 1/3 innings, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 5 K's, 2 BB's). Brandon Moss hit his ninth home run ... Outfielder Bubba Bell his it 14th home run for Lancaster and hs batting .378, just below infielder Tony Granadillo's .383 ... Lars Anderson hit his fifth home run for Greenville and is batting .317. Reliever Josh Papelbon picked up his eighth save for Greenville. He now has a 1.04 ERA.
