Bowden close to Portland
Here's a quick look at some Red Sox minor leaguers, before heading to Fenway tonight for the Dice-K vs. Nate Robertson match-up.
Michael Bowden continues to impress in Advance Class A Lancaster.
He threw a one-hitter over seven innings in his last outing and has not been scored upon in his last three games. Bowden, 20, carries a 1.37 ERA, with 46 strikeouts and eight walks over 46 innings.
Since Bowden was drafted in the same year (2005) as Clay Buchholz, their comparisons have been natural. Buchholz, 22, has a 1.85 ERA with Portland, also with 46 strikeouts, and only four walks, over 34 innings.
If Buchholz gets a promotion to Pawtucket, maybe Bowdern will be his replacement here?
In Triple-A Pawtucket, Brandon Moss stroked a pinch-hit, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth Sunday, leading to a 10-inning Pawtucket win. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. He's now batting .263.
In Class A Greenville, 19-year-old first baseman Lars Anderson continues to hit with a .304 average. He went 1-for-2 Sunday with his third home run.
Another 19-year-old, infielder Chih-Hsien Chiang of Taiwan has joined Greenville. He's hitting .312 in eight games.
One final note from Greenville: The story of Papelbon II continues as Jonathan Papelbon's bother, Joshua, recorded his sixth save Sunday. He has not been scored upon in 14 of his 15 appearances and carries a 1.45 ERA.
