Dogs lose, etc.
Despite an 8-5 loss to the Binghamton Mets, the Sea Dogs game Friday remains special because of the performance of Clay Buchholz, with his 11 strikeouts, including eight straight.
"He is something else," said Mets right fielder Caleb Stewart, who struck out twice against Buchholz. "He's going to be in the majors for a long time."
By the way, to update an earlier blog, the previous record of six straight strikeouts was held by four pitchers (A.J. Burnett, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and Kason Gabbard). Not a bad foursome.
In Triple-A Pawtucket, Charlie Zink did well, allowing two runs over seven ininngs. Both runs were solo home runs. Zink would have received the loss, but David Muprhy tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run homer. Last I checked, the game was in the 14th inning.
One other note from the game: Jacoby Ellsbury had a triple.
Good night from Hadlock.
