Yankees series
With Carl Pavano (stiff forearm) and Mike Mussina (hamstring strain) going on the disabled list, the Yankees are expected to call up lefty Chase Wright from Double-A Trenton, according to the New York papers, and the Yankees website.
Wright would pitch the Yankees next game, Tuesday, and would possibly be in line to pitch Sunday night's game at Fenway, against the Red Sox and Dice-K. It looks like Andy Pettitte will pitch Friday's game in Boston (vs. Schilling). The Yankees still need a starter for Saturday (vs. Josh Beckett).
Wright, 24, was a Yankees third-round draft pick out of high school in 2001. In two games with Trenton, he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, and 19 strikeouts in 14 innings. His call-up to New York is good news for the Sea Dogs, who are scheduled to play Trenton Monday through Wednesday (although Monday's game looks very doubtful, and Tuesday and Wednesday don't look a lot better).
