Colder Sea Dogs
Just spent this morning with the Sea Dogs at the University of Southern Maine fieldhouse. They arrived in snow flurries and left the same way. Get used to the indoor practices, boys.
While baseball people are always optimistic, it does not look good for the home opener Thursday. And Friday does not sound much better. We'll see.
Here is the starting rotation, whenever the Sea Dogs start playing ball:
Clay Buchholz
Tommy Hottovy
Andrew Dobies
Matt Goodson
Charlie Zink.
The two surprises are that Zink is back in Portland and that Chris Smith is not only back here, but is coming out of the bullpen. But that Pawtucket pitching staff is crowded. Every PawSox pitcher has major league experience, except for relief prospect Edgar Martinez. Sounds like a good subject to write about for Thursday's paper. Also, while I'm plugging the paper, we are scheduled to run our annual Meet The Sea Dogs spread Thursday, with photos and bits of information.
That is all from our "Gorham Grind" bureau (coffee shops with wireless are the best).

Kevin, your buddy from Florida, xMainer and all. Still looking for sympathy tickets to Fenway. Just read where they put 200 new seats in Fen. and are holding prices down for families.
Now for the substance. Could this be like a Pats game, you know, with the snowblower clearing the base lines? What will it be like when we curb global warming? Skates, not cleats?
Looking forward to a summer game in Portland, if indeed summer does arrive this year. pb
