BOOTHBAY HARBOR: Two selectmen defeated, two quit
Staff report Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, May 6, 2007

Two members of the Board of Selectmen were defeated in their re-election bids, and another two resigned from the five-member board following Saturday's town meeting, according to Town Clerk Patricia Wheeler.
In balloting Friday, incumbents Richard "Earl" Brown and Gary Farnham lost to challengers Louis Burnham and Bruce Engert.
Joyce Armendaris, another member of the board, resigned without giving a public explanation at the end of the town meeting.
Selectman Thomas Woodin vacated his seat after being chosen as Boothbay Harbor's new town manager, replacing Carlos Pilgrim, who previously announced his intention to resign.
The resignations leave two openings that will need to be filled in an upcoming election. The town clerk said she hopes to hold the election on June 12, the date of a statewide referendum.
An estimated crowd of 80 to 100 Boothbay Harbor residents attended the meeting, and according to the town clerk, some of them complained that the town warrant did not include the usual municipal donations to Meals on Wheels, the New Hope for Women domestic violence center and other charitable organizations. That issue could be raised at an upcoming meeting of the Board of Selectmen.
