WARREN: Cap on retail lots defeated by voters
Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, April 1, 2007

Warren voters turned down proposals at Tuesday's town meeting to cap business growth and purchase a new public works vehicle priced at $75,000.
Residents voted to nullify an amendment on a land use ordinance that imposed a commercial retail size cap of 75,000 square feet for lots on Routes 1 and 90 and 25,000 square feet for the remaining areas of town.
They also rejected a bid to replace the town's 10-year-old front-end loader, which needs a new engine. The department probably will opt to fix the vehicle using a $14,000 remanufactured engine, paid for from existing department funds.
Voters approved a $78,000 increase to the town budget, which will result in a slight tax increase. About $32,000 of that figure is expected to be generated from new taxes. The exact figure will be determined after the school budget vote in June.
Arnold Hill was re-elected to a selectmen's seat following a one-year absence.
