WEST FORKS: Tax bills up, down due to revaluation
Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 25, 2007

The town will raise about $10,000 less from taxation this year than last year, but not all residents will see their tax bills decline.

First Selectman Lloyd Trafton said about $94,000 will be raised from taxation this year, but because of a revaluation that was completed last year and will be reflected in property valuations for the first time this year, tax bills will vary, with some up and some down.

More than 20 residents attended Monday's town meeting, the majority of the population in a plantation with roughly 30 year-round residents.

Trafton, who was returned as first selectman, said all the articles passed. Harry Abraham was elected second selectman and Andrew Webb was elected third selectman.

Residents gave the first selectman a $1,000 raise, increasing his pay to $5,000. Pay for the treasurer increased $500 to $3,000, and pay for the office of tax collector increased $500 to a total of $3,500.

Residents also allocated $20,000 to renovate and maintain the Town Hall.
