MOSCOW: Funding for meals, scholarships OK'd
Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 25, 2007

About 35 town meeting voters Monday night continued to support their children with scholarships and free meals to the tune of at least $32,000.

Of that, $20,000 goes toward scholarships for local students and $12,000 is for meals for Moscow students who do not receive free or reduced school lunches already.

Voters also added $450 to the pay of the registrar of voters, according to First Selectman J. Donald Beane.

"The registrar gets only $250; we raised that to $700, due to all the complications the state has put into the voting process," Beane said.

Voters also approved $5,000 for an addition to the Bingham Area Health Center for a dental clinic.

Including the small change to the registrar's salary, the municipal spending plan totals $317,345, Beane said. Of that, most will be raised from taxes, with about $48,300 to be taken from surplus.

Voters re-elected Beane, Elvin Hawes and Maynard Lagasse as the Board of Selectmen. The three have served on the board since 1979.
