BRIGHTON PLANTATION: Voters approve $8,500 for office
Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 25, 2007

The 14 voters who showed up for town meeting voted unanimously in favor of putting $8,500 toward finish work on the new Town Office.

It was a quick meeting with little controversy, according to Town Clerk Amy Keaten.

"We're very small, we have a very small population, and there just weren't any big issues," she said.

Keaten said this was probably the lowest turnout for a town meeting she had ever seen.

Brighton Plantation, according to the State of Maine Web site, has a population of 86. In 1895 it surrendered its organization as a town and adopted a simpler structure as a plantation.

Selectwoman Joanne Goodridge said that this year's budget is $92,000, which includes a $500 annual raise for her and a $50 raise for the sexton's position.
