ALNA: All articles pass, including tax hike
Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 25, 2007

There were no empty seats Saturday at the Alna Fire House, where about 100 residents gathered for the annual town meeting.

Residents passed all 49 articles during the five-hour meeting, from electing a cemetery trustee to approving an increase in the property tax levy in case the municipal budget exceeds provisional state limits.

Selectman Brian Lawrence said one item that generated the most discussion was a proposal from the town's building committee to spend up to $7,500 on preliminary plans for a municipal multipurpose building.

Voters amended that article to have town officials study the town's need for a new building and whether residents would be better served by a new municipal building or a new firehouse, Lawrence said.
