ALBION: Voters interested in old bank building
Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 25, 2007

Town meeting voters on Saturday told selectmen they want the town to explore the possibility of acquiring an empty building that once housed a Board of Trust bank outlet.

No firm plan has been established for what to do with the building. Residents have discussed several ideas, including using it to expand the town library or to house the town offices, according to Board of Selectmen Chairman Jim Doore.

The $1.3 million town budget passed with little controversy, Doore said.

"It was kind of a tame town meeting by most standards," he said. "Everybody needs an easy town meeting once in a while. That's not necessarily a bad thing."

Doore said that budget shows an increase of about $25,000 from last year's, and voters approved an article to override state spending restrictions.

The town is in the middle of a property re-evaluation, so it's too early to tell whether residents will see a property tax increase, Door said.

Anthony Neves was elected to a three-year term as selectman. Elisa Murdoch won a spot on the Maine School Administrative District 49 board after running as a write-in candidate for a vacant spot. Incumbent Brian Sweatt won a one-year spot as road commissioner, beating two other candidates.
