In a close decision at the annual town meeting Saturday, residents rejected 13-10 a proposal to pave cemetery roads, according to Town Clerk Marilyn Smith.
Caretaker Clark Sherman had called for paving the roads because of erosion caused by last spring's rain, Smith said.
"They just wanted to keep it primitive," Smith said. "Most cemeteries are just dirt, so that was what they were thinking."
Smith said that figures on the new municipal budget are unavailable until next week.
Voters approved setting aside $10,000 as an initial payment for a new plow truck that might cost as much as $100,000, Smith said. The plow truck now in use is 16 years old, she said.
