About 133 residents defeated a proposal to expand the Board of Selectman from three members to five Saturday at the town meeting.
Voters approved the addition of a new recreation director. The town's Recreation Department is growing, so voters agreed to hire someone to focus on the administrative duties, Town Clerk Melanie Page said.
"The townspeople agreed that the children are our future, and they agreed to create this position," Page said.
Residents voted to approve $154,150 from taxation. Voters agreed to spend $99,000 toward the purchase of a new fire-and-rescue truck.
It took 35 minutes for residents to defeat a proposal that would require a special town meeting to approve capital improvements on town-maintained discontinued roads. Page said the discussion lasted 35 minutes, and the measure was defeated, 61-52.
"They didn't want capital improvements on discontinued roads that are maintained by the town," Page said.
In the race for selectman, incumbent Mike Adcock was defeated by Leroy Letourneau, 79-38. Letorneau served as selectman several years ago, Page said.
