BALDWIN: Voters OK limits for sex offenders
By Melanie Creamer Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 11, 2007

About 80 residents at Saturday's town meeting approved an ordinance that will prohibit registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of schools, day- care centers and playgrounds.
Selectman Norman McKenney, who is serving his 34th year on the board, said the ordinance was passed by a substantial majority.
"Its a deterrent, we hope. This would prohibit the state from placing one in town within these limits," he said.
Voters approved a $495,721 municipal budget, which is a $21,000 increase from last year's figure. McKenney said the increase is partly a result of an $11,170 payment on a five-year loan for a new firetruck.
"The meeting went real good," he said. "They realize the challenges we face trying to make the numbers come out right."
In local elections, Selectman Gary McNeil defeated Vinnedge Lawrence, 110-37. Deborah Wakefield was re-elected as town clerk, treasurer and tax collector. Suzette McLaughlin was re-elected as a director of SAD 55.
