New Portland: Voters choose bid by current plower
Staff report Maine Sunday Telegram Sunday, March 4, 2007

Opting for the higher of two plowing contracts and approving other additional expenses, residents agreed to override the state limit on growth in spending at Saturday's town meeting.
Town Manager Andrea Reichert said that once voters approved all the new spending, the town had exceeded by $21,000 the spending increases allowed by the law. They then approved the override in a written ballot, Reichert said.
Voters decided to approve the more expensive of the two three-year plowing bids, which came in at $195,000. That bid was submitted by current contractor G.R. Taylor & Sons.
Reichert said a final decision could be made before April.
Voters doubled the road-tarring reserve account, to $10,000. They added $1,500 to administrative appropriations for the new town Web site, and doubled this year's contribution to the 2008 Bicentennial Fund, to $2,000.
