REGULAR SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Sept. 9: New England opens the season with a 38-14 victory over the New York Jets. Tom Brady completes 22 of 28 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns.

Sept. 13: Head coach Bill Belichick is fined $500,000 and the Patriots are fined $250,000 and stripped of a first-round draft pick after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell determines the coach and team broke league rules by having a team official videotape the JetsŐ defensive coaches from the Patriots sideline.

Oct. 14: New England goes on the road and routs the unbeaten Dallas Cowboys, 48-27, as Brady throws for 388 yards and five touchdowns.

Nov. 4: Down 20-10 early in the fourth quarter, the Patriots rally to beat the Colts 24-20 in a battle of undefeated teams in Indianapolis. Brady throws a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Faulk with 3:15 remaining for the winning score.

Dec. 3: Trailing 24-17 early in the fourth quarter against the Baltimore Ravens, the Patriots again come back to win, this time on an eight-yard touchdown reception by Jabar Gaffney with just 44 seconds remaining.

Dec. 29: The Patriots became the first team in NFL history to complete a 16-0 regular season by rallying past the New York Giants, 38-35. Trailing 28-16 early in the third quarter, New England got a six-yard touchdown run from Laurence Maroney, a 65-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Randy Moss and a five-yard scoring run from Maroney to take control. Brady throws two touchdown passes to Moss, giving Brady an NFL-record 50 on the year and Moss an NFL-record 23 touchdown receptions. The Patriots also set the NFL record for most points in a season, with 589, and an NFL record for consecutive regular season victories (19).
