EMILY MARSHALL, Valedictorian, is the daughter of David and Mary Marshall of York. She has been involved in many extracurricular activities at York High School. She was a member of the indoor track, softball, and field hockey teams all four years. She played on the State Championship field hockey team, was a member of the State Champion 4x200 Relay in indoor track, and was a captain of the softball team this year. Emily was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish World Language Honor Society, and Key Club. She implemented an Adopt-A-Highway program for Key Club and was the vice president this year. She was also a Senior Facilitator and a tutor for the Writing Center. In addition to activities at YHS, she has played the piano since she was six years old and plans to continue in the future. Last August, she traveled to Brazil to participate in environmental research with a group of York students. During her high school career, Emily won awards in English, Spanish, chemistry, physics, art and mathematics. Last year, she received the Yale Book Award and the Rensselaer Medal. Emily will attend Dartmouth College in the fall where she will pursue interests in chemistry, mathematics, music, Spanish, and art.

STUART MASON, Salutatorian, is the son of George and Karen Mason and the brother of George "Sam" Mason. At York High School Stuart was president of the Student Government and the National Honor Society, as well as chief lighting technician for the auditorium, a writer for the newspaper, a member of the World Language National Honor Society, and a member of the jazz band. Stuart was a captain of the cross country and track teams. Blue is his color, and he firmly believes that when you look good, you feel good. Stuart was the recipient of the MPA Principal's Choice Academic Achievement Award, the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, the St. Michael's College Book Award, and the Phi Beta Kappa Academic and Personal Excellence Award. This fall, Stuart Mason will join the Harvard College Class of 2013 and pursue studies in the fields of physics, mathematics, and engineering sciences.

THEO BROSSMAN was born to David and Lucinda Brossman in the year 1990. He has a brother named Noah and three stepsiblings named Ben, Abby, and Hannah. Music has always been an integral part of Theo's life; he was chosen to be in the All-State Jazz Band his freshman year as 1st tenor saxophone and was a part of the York High School Jazz Band and Chamber Singers. Theo was also a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Facilitators, the Gang Green Environmental Activism Club, and the Writing Center. For the past several years, Theo has spent time at Coastal Ridge Elementary School volunteering in a second grade art class. He played soccer and lacrosse when he was younger, but now he prefers kayaking and bicycling. Theo was accepted to several schools to study music, but has decided to pursue different interests. He will spend a semester at the New York Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies and tentatively enroll at Hampshire College in the spring to study architecture, sustainability and hopefully still have the opportunity to keep playing music.

COLLEEN BUCKLESS is the daughter of John and Madolyn Buckless of York. Colleen enjoyed a wide variety of honors and activities during her four years at York High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society, World Language National Honor Society (German), Student Government, and the student representative to the York School Committee. Colleen was also a Student Listener and Senior Facilitator. She maintained honor roll status as well as earning academic achievement awards for Health, Honors English, Honors Chemistry, and Modern European History. For four years Colleen was a proud member of the YHS field hockey team, winning the 2008 State Championship; additionally, she participated in both indoor and outdoor track and field, managed the boys' varsity basketball and was recognized as an Academic All-Star in field hockey, indoor track and outdoor track. Colleen participated in RYLA and Dirigo Girls' State, was an Honorary Page at the State House, worked with the York Police Department to implement an E-911 Autism Flagging system, and enjoyed Scouting. Colleen will attend the Honors College of the University of Maine Orono with a major in biology and a minor in neuroscience in order to pursue a career in neuroscience research.

KAITLIN CARSON is the daughter of Scott and Leslie Carson of York. Kaitlin's high school career was characterized in large part by the organizations at York High School. A member of National Honor Society, the World Language National Honor Society, and the Civil Rights Team, she also served as president of Interact, and most recently co-managed of the boys' lacrosse team, helping her to achieve her goals of staying involved in the school's community. Also, working as a tutor and helping in a nursery has made her aspire to integrate education into her future career. However, her true love was found through having the opportunity to work in Guatemala and to see the Pantanal in Brazil. These trips inspired her to major in International Relations with a minor in French. Kaitlin will attend George Washington University in the fall after working abroad over the summer.

DANIELLE CLEMENTS is the daughter of Roger and Gai Clements. Before returning to York in 2004, Danielle lived and attended school in Landstuhl, Germany. At York High School, she has been a dedicated member of the National Honor Society, the World Language Honor Society, and the Civil Rights Team. While maintaining honors throughout high school, Danielle has won several academic awards including ones in math, French, and the Smith College Book Award. In sports, she has captained the State Championship field hockey team, been a member of the girls' ice hockey team, and a captain of the successful outdoor track and field team. In the fall, Danielle will attend Clarkson University to major in biology or bioengineering.

JILLIAN MEANS, daughter of John and Jeanine Means, participated in three seasons of sports all four years including two years of varsity field hockey and three years of varsity indoor and outdoor track. An active member of the community, Jillian was an active member and secretary of Key Club, as well as volunteering her time at the York Public Library, participating in the National Honor Society, and the World Language National Honor Society for German. She maintained honors all four years and was a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student, an AP Scholar and earned the Art Award. Next year, Jillian will attend St. Michael's College where she will pursue a liberal arts education.

KIMBERLY RIGANO, daughter of Lori Proos and Robert Rigano, grew up in Acton, Massachusetts and moved to York at the start of her sophomore year. She continued her lifelong involvement in sports as a three-year member of the YHS varsity soccer and basketball teams and was privileged to be a part of the 2007 State Championship soccer team and the 2008 Western Maine Championship basketball team. Kimberly was also an active member of the YHS Interact Club, Civil Rights Team, National Honor Society, and World Language National Honor Society. She also volunteers year-round at the Center for Wildlife. Kimberly has received several awards including Academic Achievement awards in math, chemistry and Spanish, the Williams College Book Award, Western Maine All-Academic recognition in soccer and basketball, and was selected as a member of the Maine McDonaldÕs All-State Academic Team. She maintained high honors for three years and is the recipient of a Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship as well as a merit scholarship from Florida Institute of Technology where she plans to study psychology with a concentration in animal behavior.

CURRAN RUSSELL is the son of Beth Boynton and Pam Russell. The list of clubs and activities he has been involved with at York High is long and varied, including the Civil Rights Team, National Honor Society, Spanish World Language National Honor Society, Senior Facilitators, the District Music Festival for chorus, and Student Listeners (a mentoring program working with younger students). His true passion however, is theater, and he has performed in numerous venues around the Seacoast, including the Ogunquit Playhouse, Seacoast Repertory Theater, and Prescott Park Arts Festival, in shows ranging from High School Musical to Urinetown. Curran was a finalist for both the National Merit and Questbridge scholarships, and this fall he will attend Emerson College with the intent of earning a BA in Theater Education.

CHARLI SAYWARD, daughter of Dennis Sayward of York, is a member of the National Honor Society and World Language National Honor Society, as well as team captain for York High School's Action Team. Through Action Team, she collected and donated stuffed animals, sports equipment, and soap and shampoo to Camp POSTCARD, a summer program for underprivileged youths. A very successful student at YHS, Charli remained on the honor roll all four years. Along with academics and volunteering in the community, she was also a member of Great Bay Rowing Club for five years. This fall, Charli will attend the Honors College of the University of Maine at Farmington, where she plans to pursue secondary education in mathematics.

EMILY WALL, daughter of Nancy and David Wall, is a member of various clubs and activities including National Honor Society, World Language National Honor Society (Spanish), and Student Government. In addition to her membership in clubs, she played varsity ice hockey all four years and was a two-year member of the track team. She also participated in the community by volunteering at the local Special Olympics each year. Throughout her four years, Emily maintained honors and was the recipient of the St. Michael's College Book Award, as well as academic awards in math and English. This fall Emily will attend St. Lawrence University where she plans to study pre-med and environmental studies.

ANDREW YOUNG is the son of Donald and Karen Young. Andrew was a representative in Student Government for three years, as well as a member of the World Language National Honor Society. He achieved honors all four years, even while being employed most of the year. Andrew also served as a Senior Facilitator and helped students in the Writing Center. Additionally, he volunteered at the local library. In sports, he coached a youth basketball team and participated in golf and indoor track throughout high school, earning varsity letters in both. During the summer after his junior year, Andrew went to Brazil to help researchers find out more about the wildlife of the area, along with the effects of climate change on the Pantanal wetlands. He also was active in the local music scene; he played guitar and bass for multiple bands over two years. Andrew received the Dean's Scholarship to Arizona State University, where he will major in Film and Media Studies.
