Each year, the Trustees of the Robert W. Traip Trust present Awards and Scholarships to graduating seniors. In addition, the Trustees offer a significant number of grants-in-aid to all four schools in Kittery, Mitchell Primary, Frisbee Elementary, Shapleigh Middle, and Traip Academy.
140 years ago, in 1869, Robert W. Traip passed away, leaving in his will a sum of money to be dedicated to the education of the youth of Kittery. His homestead was sold to the town in 1903 and the first class graduated from the new Robert W. Traip Academy in 1906.
The scholarships presented at this time are dedicated to the memory of several benefactors of our school.
Each year, the Traip Trustees present watches to the following students who have demonstrated the qualities of scholarship, leadership, and service during their years at Traip.: Alexander Clyatt, Hana Eaton, Zachary Eaton, Sarah Higgins, Amy Lemieux and Heather Orr
The final watch is presented in memory of Dr. Paul Taylor, a long time president of the Traip Trustees and a tireless worker for our school. Dr. Taylor took particular interest in the student who worked hard, persevered under difficult circumstances, and set the proper example for classmates.
