Michael Joseph Jerome, Valedictorian
Michael is the son of Christopher and Barbara Jerome of Falmouth. He has distinguished himself as Valedictorian of his class and is a 2009 National Merit Scholarship Winner. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the state championship math team. He received a Certificate of Distinction from the American Invitational Mathematics Exam and a Cheverus High School Bronze Prize Certificate for Academic Excellence in Calculus BC. Michael was also recognized with an Academic Excellence Award in Mathematics and Spanish for having the highest academic standing in those subject areas for four years. Michael is the recipient of the Maine Principals' Association Award for outstanding scholarship and citizenship. He will be attending Duke University in the fall.
Shaina Marie Deutsch, Salutatorian
Shaina is the daughter of Robert and Anna Deutsch of Freeport. She has distinguished herself as the Salutatorian of her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and received a Cheverus High School Gold Prize Certificate for Academic Excellence in French, Physics Honors, and Theology. Shaina was also recognized with an Academic Excellence Award in French and Theology for having the highest academic standing in those subject areas for four years. Shaina was chosen by the senior class and the faculty as their Baccalaureate Speaker. Over her years at Cheverus she has been a member of the math team, the tennis team, and the Key Club. She is also an avid equestrian.
Timothy P. Martin
Timothy is the son of Dennis and Kathleen Martin of Casco. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club, the Math Team, and the Student Council. He is a valued member of the Cheverus High School Golf Team. He is the recipient of a Gold Prize for Academic Excellence in AP Economics, AP Calculus AB and Spanish III and received the Betty & Sumner Hancock and the Casco Fire Association Scholarships. He will be attending Tufts University in the fall.
Bethany L. Potter
Bethany is the daughter of Jason and Jennifer Potter of Auburn. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Team, Art Club, Student Council, Haitian Solidarity Club, Spanish Club, and the Drama Society. She is also a member of the Field Hockey and Hockey Team. She is a National Merit Scholarship recipient, a recipient of the Gold Prize for Academic Excellence in AP Statistics, AP European History, and Drawing and Painting. She is also the recipient of the United States Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award, The Foreign Language Association of Maine Award, the Activities and Achievement Award and was recognized with an Academic Excellence Award in Social Studies and Art for having the highest academic standing in those subject areas for four years. She will attend Harvard University in the fall.
Caroline I. Janson
Caroline is the daughter of Daniel and Michelle Janson of Kennebunk. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the recipient of the Gold Prize for Academic Excellence in Theology, English, and Spanish, and the President's Educational Award. She will be attending Bentley College next year.
Bridget E. Thomas
Bridget is the daughter of Kevin and Nancy Thomas of Standish. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a Gold Prize recipient for Academic Excellence in AP Statistics and AP Latin Literature, and was recognized with an Academic Excellence Award in Latin for having the highest academic standing in that subject areas for four years. She is the recipient of the Rev. Pedro Aruppe, S.J. Award, the St. Francis Xavier, S.J. Campus Ministry Award, and the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. She is a member of the Key Club, Haitian Solidarity Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Student Council, and the school liturgy team. She is also a member of the Outdoor Club, Drama Society, Student Mentoring Team, Pro-Life Club, and the Swim Team. She will attend Boston College in the fall.
Daniel C. Jones
Daniel is the son of Paul and Susan Jones of South Portland. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Liturgy Team, Haitian Solidarity Club, Drama Society, Debate Team and the Spanish Club. He is the recipient of the St. Francis Xavier, S.J. Campus Ministry Award, the St. Ignatius Award, and the McKenna Dempsey "Person for Other" Scholarship. He will attend Fairfield University in the fall.
Margaret F. Orelup
Margaret is the daughter of Richard Orelup and Alicia Flaherty of South Portland. She is a member of the National Honor Society and received a Bronze Prize for Academic Excellence in AP English. Margaret was active with the Key Club, Spanish Club, Haiti Solidarity Club and the Cheverus Refugee Alliance. She traveled to Santiago, Chile for three weeks as part of the Cheverus/CPH-CJA school exchange and participated in the Ignatian Family Teach-In this past fall in Georgia. Last fall, she received the Yale Book Award. She is the recipient of the President's Educational Award and will be attending Wheaton College in the fall.
Joseph H. Moreshead
Joseph is the son of John and Karen Moreshead of South Portland. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. He is also a member of the Key Club, the Liturgy Team, Pro-Life Club, Habitat for Humanity, the Haitian Solidarity Club, the Math Team, Debate Team, and is a state championship swimmer. He is the recipient of the United States Army Reserve Scholar Athlete Award, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, the President's Volunteer Service Award, the Outstanding Senior and All Around Student Award, and the Southwestern Maine Swim Officials Association Scholarship. He will attend Fordham University in the Fall.
Vera P. Filatova
Vera is the daughter of Yelena Filatova of Portland. She is the Vice President of her class, a member of the National Honor Society, Co- President of the Student Council Executive Board, the Key Club, a Student Ambassador, and a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams. She is the recipient of the Abraham S. and Fannie B. Levy Award, the MELMAC Education Foundation Maine Principal's Scholarship, and the Leadership Award. She will attend Wheeling Jesuit University in the fall.
