Gregory Bergeron
At the head of the class is Valedictorian Gregory Bergeron, son of Scott & Janet Bergeron of Kittery. An involved and outstanding young man, excellent student, Greg is a National Merit Scholar and will attend Brown University. He was recognized as Traip's outstanding senior at the Maine Principal's Association. A very active member of the Traip community, Greg has been involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Key Club and traveled with the Heritage Club. A vital member of the school newspaper, The Ranger, and Rapid Ranger, Greg also writes the article "Across the River' for the Portsmouth Herald.
Andrew McDonough-Lee
Salutatorian, Andrew McDonough-Lee is the son of Michael Lee and Wanda McDonough of Kittery and will attend Colby College after being accepted at UNH, UVM, WPI, Clark, Northeastern and Union College. Andrew's many and varied activities include Project Search, Spanish Exchange Club, National Honor Society and Team Green. He has participated in Ski Club and volunteered at Family's First.
Emily Hinkle
Ranking third is Emily Hinkle, daughter of Ann Hunter. She will attend the University of Maine, Orono having also been accepted at Northeastern University. An active member and officer in National Honor Society and Student Council, Emily is also a talented actress participating in Drama all four years. As an athlete she played basketball and field hockey and was captain her junior and senior years. Emily was awarded most valuable player both junior and senior year. Her community involvement includes tutoring Algebra and English, volunteering at Fair Tides and camp counselor for field hockey.
William Simpson
William Simpson, son of Mary Oplinger and Charles Simpson of Kittery is in the number four position. He will attend Marymount Manhattan College but was accepted at UVM, USM, San Francisco State and Hunter College. Will is a member of National Honor Society, Project Search and Team Green. Athletically Will has been a member of the track and soccer teams. His community involvement includes Special Olympics, musical performances and Transition Home Child Director. Will's passion is music and he has performed in the area. He has recorded and produced two albums.
Courtney Connor
Ranking fifth in her class is Courtney Connor, daughter of Gary and Jill Connor of Kittery. She will attend Hunter College having been accepted at University of ME, Orono, USM, UVM, Hampshire College, San Francisco College. Courtney is a National Honor Society member, serving as co-president, member of Project Search, Heritage Club, Spanish Exchange club and co-founded Traip's first Environmental Club, Team Green. She has been a member of the track team and varsity basketball team, serving as captain 07-08. Volunteering at Special Olympics, Shapleigh track and field and recreational soccer, Courtney has also been a math tutor. Her favorite past time is painting and drawing.
Cody Abbott
Cody Abbott, son of Steven and Kathy Abbott is sixth in his class. He will attend the University of Maine, Orono and has received a Presidential Scholarship, a University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation Scholarship and the Muriel Getchell Scholarship. Cody was also accepted at W.P.I. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has traveled with the Heritage Club. A talented athlete Cody has lettered in both basketball and baseball. And in both basketball and baseball he made the All Academic Team and the Varsity GPA Award. He was also a member of the Western Maine Senior All Star Basketball team. Cody's volunteer work includes Kittery Youth Recreation basketball coach and camp counselor, American Cancer Society Relay for Life and Daffodil Days, Save the Shipyard volunteer, Peer Tutoring and fundraising for various non-profit athletic and school organizations. Cody was recognized by PNS Commander Captain Jonathan Iverson for dedicated support and effort to save the shipyard.
Corey Tackett
The daughter of Gretchen and Jeff Tackett, Corey Tackett will attend the University of Rhode Island in the fall also having been accepted at the University of Maine, Orono. Active in the Traip community Corey is a member of the National Honor Society, Project Search, Student Council, Young Women's Leadership and has traveled with the Heritage Club. She has played varsity soccer where she captained the team, was named Most Valuable Player and All Star Team. In basketball she was also named Most Valuable Player. Volunteering at youth soccer clinics, recreation basketball, Corey has also mentored and worked at Special Olympics. Corey was also selected to participate at the Keller Bloom Science Camp.

Jason Berube
Ranking eighth in the Class of 2008 is the son of Pauline Berube-Nelson and Mark Nelson is Jason Berube. Having been accepted at UNH, WPI and Northeastern University Jason will attend the University of Maine at Orono. He played freshmen basketball, JV soccer, JV baseball and wrestling but his passion is football playing three years and captioning the team his senior year. Jason is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council where he served as Treasurer for two years. His community involvement includes recreational basketball, camp counselor, assistant middle school wrestling coach and he also participated in town cleanup and cooked at many shipyard events.
Jessica Bedard
Jessica Bedard, daughter of Patrick and Kim Bedard ranks ninth in her class. Jessica Bedard is a diligent student who has always challenged herself in and outside the classroom. In addition to her rigorous course load, she has taken on many other activities. She has participated in cheerleading throughout her four years at Traip, taking the regional championship title for 2008. She serves as the student representative on the Kittery School Board and is now serving her second year as Student representative on the Health Coordinating Team. Jessica is part of a peer listeners group that travels to the middle school a few times a month to talk about transitioning into high school. She also writes for a division of the school paper that produces the "Rapid Ranger" (a weekly newspaper Portsmouth Herald). Last year she was part of a discussion group at UNH called Project Search. Jessica is a member of National Honor Society and participated in the Project Graduation fashion show "Rock the Runway." She also contributed in the creation of a video for Maine Mentoring Partnership, by interviewing Sea Dogs players. Last summer Jessica Bedard volunteered at the Families First. She was also selected for the Western Maine Principal's Conference award for leadership and citizenship. Jessica loves to travel and is part of the Heritage Club. Because of her love of experiencing new cultures, next year she is planning on going to Goldsmith's College (a branch of the University of London).
Austen Taylor
Filling the tenth spot is Austen Taylor daughter of Jim and Ann Taylor. She was accepted at the University of Maine, Orono but will attend the University of Southern Maine. Austen is a member of the National Honor Society serving as secretary this year and Young Women's Leadership. Athletically she has played three varsity sports for four years, soccer, basketball and softball. She was captain her junior and senior years. Her contributions to the community include mentoring transitioning eighth graders and working at basketball camps.
Brianna Galle
Brianna Galle ranks eleventh in the class and is the daughter of Ken and Judy Galle. Having been accepted at UVM, University of Maine at Farmington. Brianna will attend the University of Maine at Orono. Her many activities include: National Honor Society, Drama, Student Council, Band and both junior and senior yearbook editor. She also played JV softball and wrestling manager. Brianna has marched in parades and volunteered at Kids Club at Mitchell School. An advanced placement and talented art student Brianna was the Art Department's Student of the Month.
Jesse Scardina
Jesse Scardina, son of Marco and Tami Scardina ranks twelfth in his class. Accepted at Emmanuel College and Suffolk University, Jesse will attend Emerson College and major in Journalism. Jesse is one of our most involved seniors. As Student Council member for four years, he was freshmen class president and Student Council President his senior year. And he is the National Honor Society president. Jesse writes for the school newspaper, The Ranger, Rapid Ranger and the "Across the River" article in the Portsmouth Herald. Jesse is the co-editor of the yearbook. A four year soccer player, he captained, won the Coaches Award and All Conference team his senior year. And the same with four years of basketball where he captained his junior year, grade point average award grades 10 & 11 and B.E.A.K. award as a senior. Jesse has been a guest speaker at DARE graduation, hosted Meet the Candidate Night and was a recreation basketball coach. Jesse attended a freshmen leadership seminar, Maine Youth Leadership and received the Western Maine Principal's Award.
Adam William Baran
Adam William Baran son of Thomas and Linda Baran ranks thirteenth in his class. Adam has been accepted at the University of Maine at Orono where he will be majoring in Engineering in their Honors College Program. He is a member of the National Honor Society and helps tutor students in Spanish. He was named Student of the Month by the Kittery Rotary Club for his achievements in a foreign language (Spanish). Adam just recently traveled to Spain where he stayed with a family while touring the country. Athletically he excelled in many areas. Adam was captain of the Traip football team in 2007. He was named "All Conference" in the Western Maine division in football this past season along with the Lineman of the Year award. Adam broke the school record for Indoor Track in the shot put this spring. He has volunteered his time over the last few years for Special Olympics. Adam is a member of the Second Christian Congregational Church UCC in Kittery.
Nell Boley
The daughter of Lea and John Boley, Nell is our fourteenth ranking senior. Accepted at Wheaton College, University of Maine at Orono and Farmington, Nell will attend McDaniel College. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Project Search. For five years she has participated in Ballet and Jazz. But her passion is horseback riding, where she has also been an instructor. Her volunteering includes Families First, UNH Therapeutic Riding Center and working with autistic children who ride at the barn at summer camp.
Melinda Rivet
Ranking fifteen but by no means least is Melinda Rivet, daughter of Julie and Brian Rivet. She was accepted at Emmanuel College and the New England Art Institute but will attend the University of Southern Maine. As a member of the Drama Club for four years she has acted, directed and done tech. Mindy has been president and vice president of the Fantasy Book Club. She also belongs to Team Green and the yearbook staff. During her freshmen year she played basketball and softball. She has participated in Roller Derby. Mindy has been a mentor, Big Brother/Sister, basketball coach, adopted a grandparent and worked for the American Red Cross. She has also been a Bereavement Counselor, raised money for Katrina and organized various shows.
