Thomas Arsenault is son of Jim and Patty Arsenault, Tom was a member of the Key Club. He received a Presidential Dirigo Scholarship and the Maine Space Grant Consortium/USM Science Scholarship. Tom will be attending the University of Southern Maine in the fall to study electrical engineering.
Elizabeth Bolduc is the daughter of Bob and Patty Bolduc. Elizabeth has been a Varsity Cheerleader for the past four years during both the fall and winter seasons. She was selected to be a captain her junior year. She was named to the SMAA 2nd Team All Conference Cheerleading Team in 2006 and 2007 and to the SMAA All Academic Team in 2008. Elizabeth has been a member of the Key Club for the past four years and was selected as a member of its Board of Directors and elected its Treasurer. She was also elected Vice President of the National Honor Society. Throughout her four years, she has been a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe's Youth Ministry. Awards Elizabeth has received while in high school include the Clarkson Leadership Award and the Timothy Award. For the past two years, Elizabeth served as a junior volunteer at Mercy Hospital. Elizabeth will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in the fall.
Allison Brusie is the daughter of Stephanie Loiacono and Kevin Brusie. Allison was on the Board of Directors for Key Club, and an editor of the Scarborough High School Newspaper. For the last four years she participated in the Scarborough High School Environmental Club, the Maine All-State Music Festival for two years, was principal chair for flute in the District festival for two years, and is currently principal chair in the SHS Wind Ensemble. She has also participated in the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble for four years and this year had the honor of being second chair in the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. Allison will be attending Susquehanna University in the fall.
Laura Cella is the daughter of Michael and Helen Cella. Laura is the Secretary of the National Honor Society, a four year participant in the Key Club, Honors Chorus, High School Band, Relay for Life, and Oak Hill Players. This past year she was on the State Champion Girl's Ice Hockey team, and as a freshman, was on the State Champion Girl's Swim team. Laura has been a member of Musica de Filia girl choir for eight years and has participated in the District Choral Festival and Allstate Music Festival. This fall she was the top female performer at the Broadway NATS. She is the recipient of the Rutger's Book Award. Laura will be attending Elon University in the fall majoring in Vocal Performance.
Kevin Daley is the son of John and Bev Daley. Kevin played lacrosse for all four years of high school, played basketball for three, and was a member of Key Club for the final two. He also served as an assistant coach for the youth lacrosse program for two years. Honors that Kevin has received in high
school include honor roll, member of the SMAA All-Academic team for basketball, and a four-year letter winner in lacrosse. Kevin will be attending the University of Richmond in the fall.
Eugene Matthew Fleming is the son of John and Janna Fleming. Eugene has been a part of the Big Brother Big Sister Program since his junior year as well as Key Club. Honors and awards that Eugene has received in high school include the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award from the University of Rochester. He earned honor roll or high honor roll designation throughout his high school career. Eugene Fleming will be attending Stonehill College in the fall.
Matthew Gallagher is the son of Susanne Gallagher and Stephen Gallagher. During his last three years in high school he participated in the golf program, serving as captain senior year. Honors that Matthew has received in high school include being selected for the SMAA All-State 2nd team golf and All-Academic golf team. Matthew will be attending the University of Maine, Orono in the fall.
Siqi (Susan) Geng is the daughter of Jinming Geng and Wei Huang. Susan was a member of orchestra, recycling club, and ECOS. She participated in cross country as a sophomore. Honors and awards that Susan has received in high school include Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, and the Smith Book Award. Susan will be attending the University of Maine in the fall.
Nicole Glab is the daughter of Janusz and Urszula Glab. Nicole made the varsity swim team her first two years at SHS, winning the Class A State Championship in the 500 Freestyle event during her Sophomore year. She has been a member of Coastal Maine Aquatics club swimming for 5 years, where she received the most outstanding swimmer award in 2007 and 2008. Nicole was a member of the National Honor Society both her Junior and Senior years. In her Junior year Nicole was presented with the Dartmouth Book Award and was also selected for the Rippleffect Youth Leadership Summit. She has also been involved in Key Club, Art Club and the Environmental Club. Nicole has chosen to continue her education at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where she will continue swimming on the Division I Varsity team and major in the sciences.
Kira Gordon is the daughter of Mark and Kristin Gordon. She was the treasurer of the National Honor Society and a member of the Key Club. During all four years of high school she participated in indoor track and varsity softball, serving as a captain in both sports her senior year. Honors and/or awards that Kira has received in high school include the Cornell Book Award, First Team All-Conference outfielder, and five state championships. Kira will be attending Middlebury College in the fall.
Sarah Gordon is the daughter of Peter and Laura Gordon. Sarah has participated throughout her four years of high school in the soccer and track programs; her favorite event was pole vault. Sarah served as co-captain of the outdoor track team her senior year. She was a member of Key Club, Environmental Club, One Act stage crew, and Wind Ensemble. Sarah will be attending Wheaton College in the fall, where she plans to study biology.
Nathaniel Gove is the son of Jim and Lisa Gove. He served as a two year member of the Key Club and as a student representative for the newly founded Scarborough Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Foundation. Nate participated in four years of soccer and three years of tennis, representing both teams as a senior captain. He received the following awards throughout his high school experience: National History Day Finalist, Veterans of Foreign Wars Essay Finalist, 2007 Coaches Award (Soccer), 2007 Fall Athlete of the Year (Forecaster). Nate will be attending Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall to pursue a degree in Architecture.
Allison Harbottle is the daughter of John and Becky Harbottle. Allison was member of the National Honor Society, on the Yearbook Committee, and a member of the Scarborough High School Band. She has danced competitively with Scarborough Dance Center since she was 9 years old winning several awards and trophies and for the past two years she has taught dance at Scarborough Dance Center. Awards Allison has received in high school include an English Award, Band Award, and the Women in Engineering Award. Allison will be attending Emmanuel College in the fall to study Bio-chemistry.
Torrie Hazelwood is the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Hazelwood. Torrie was selected as a Board of Director and elected Vice President of Key Club. Further, she was chosen as Service Fair Chair for the New England District of Key Clubs and is an avid member of the National Honor Society. During the past four years Torrie has taken part in a service based trip to Japan and was selected to join the Becket Chimney Corners Aides Leadership Program. Throughout high school she been on the girls' soccer team, played the bassoon in the school's Wind Ensemble and, for the past two years, has taken part in the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble. She also received the Musical Excellence Award on Bassoon. Torrie will be attending Franklin and Marshall College this coming fall.
Camille Jania is the daughter of Janusz and Krystyna Jania. Camille took part in the Women's Literary Union her junior year and followed a voluntary schedule of helping the tennis youth grow and develop in Maine. During her four years at SHS, she participated in the tennis program, playing for varsity for both freshman and senior year. She finalized her freshman year with a State Championship title and MVP. Honors and awards that Camille received have been Rotary's Student of the Quarter during freshman year and the honor of being presented in Sports Illustrated in "Faces in the Crowd". She has competed at a National and International level of tennis, being the quarterfinalist of the National Clay Courts in Memphis, Tennessee and top 20 recruit in the nation for colleges following a ranking of top 10 overall in her age group. Camille will be attending Harvard in the fall, pursuing a career in medicine.
Joseph Kennedy is the proud son of Anne and Fred Kennedy. Joe was the VP of his freshman and sophomore class, a member of Student Council, Natural Helpers and the National Honor Society. He was a four year soccer and basketball athlete, and played one year of both baseball and lacrosse. As a sophomore he was selected to the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference, followed up by a selection to Boy's State in his junior year. Joe will be taking his great memories of Scarborough High School to Washington D.C. next year where he plans to attend American University in the fall. He wanted to thank his parents along with any and all teachers and coaches who put with him all these great years!
Alexandra Laniewski, Co-Valedictorian, is the daughter of Nadine and Jeff Laniewski. Alexandra ÒBig AlÓ was the Secretary of the Class of 2008 for four years. She was nominated by her classmates to be a Natural Helper and was a member of National Honors Society. She was chosen by the athletic director and coaches to be a part of the Scarborough Varsity Club her senior year, and was chosen by her classmates to receive the Daughter's of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award.
During all four of her high school years she played soccer and was named captain her senior year. For Big Al's junior and senior year, she ran indoor track and won two State Championships and set a new state record for the 4x200 relay. Her senior year she took up tennis, was named captain, and played 1st doubles. Honors and awards that Big Al has received in high school include The Principal's Award, St. Joseph's Book Award, Coaches' Award in girls' soccer, All State and Conference Soccer Teams, All Academic Team for Girls' Soccer, Scholar Athlete Award, and the Charles Bennett Memorial Award by Maine Soccer Officials. Alexandra will be attending the University of Vermont in the fall to pursue a career in Physical Therapy.
Amy Li, Salutatorian, is the daughter of Rong Li and Xiao Li. She was a member of Key Club and the Scarborough High School Band program. Honors and/or awards that Amy has received in high school include the Williams Book Award. Amy will be attending Tufts University.
Elizabeth McCarthy is the daughter of proud parents Tom McCarthy and Jeanne Crocker. She was a committed member of Key Club throughout her four years at SHS, and also participated in the Model United Nations and National Honor Society. Her primary activity, however, was Yearbook. Liz was the Junior and Senior Editor and she dedicated most of her time to assembling and publishing the yearbook. Her honors include participating in Dirigo Girls' State, Women's Literary Union, Young Writers' Competition, and the District One Honors Band. Liz is looking forward to attending Northeastern University in the fall and plans to major in International Affairs.
Anne Marie Mills is the daughter of Ernest Mills Jr. and Kathleen Cirillo. Anne participated in Key Club for her last two years of high school and was a part of the Cross Country team, Outdoor Track team and the four-time State Champion Indoor Track team. During her senior year, Anne served as the captain of the Indoor and Outdoor Track teams. Honors and awards that Anne has received in high school include the Wellesley Book Award and MVP of the Indoor Track team. Anne will be attending Alfred University in the fall.
Saerim Park, Co-Valedictorian is the daughter of TaeRyong Park and Youngsuk Nam. Saerim spent much of high school involved in filmmaking and screenwriting. This early exposure to theatrics led Saerim to make a dramatic habit of questioning her existence, before selling her soul to the Academic Decathlon team, with whom she went on to the national competition for three years. Saerim also played violin with the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Maine All-State Orchestra for four years, and was an editor for the student newspaper, a member of Environmental Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Speech, and a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship. If otherwise unoccupied, she enjoys spurting out impromptu musical doodles on the piano and taking long naps during inappropriate hours of day. Saerim will attend Columbia University next fall.
Sean Rollins is the son of Mark Rollins and Karen Prouty. He has been involved in both Cross Country and Track during his junior and senior years, and has participated in the SHS Civil Rights Team for three years. Also, he played 3rd Trombone in the Concert Jazz Ensemble during his junior year, and has been active in ECOS during his senior year. Sean Rollins has won awards such as the Southern Maine Athletic Association Cross Country All-Academic Team, and the 2007 Scarborough Cross Country Senior Award. Sean will be attending the University of Maine at Orono in the fall.
Alexandra Solender is the daughter of Evan and Heather Solender. She is the President of the Environmental Club of Scarborough, the National Honors Society, and the Scarborough Band Program. She has also been a dedicated member of the Key Club, Oak Hill Players, School Newspaper, and Concert Jazz Ensemble for all four years of high school. Allie has been selected to play the trumpet in the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, Southern Maine District Honors Band, and the Maine All-State Band throughout her high school career. She has also been invited to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards as a camper and as a staff member. Allie enjoys working with 3rd graders at Bet Ha'am Religious School teaching Hebrew. Allie will be attending Elon University where she has been named a Presidential Scholar and has been invited to take part in the Elon College Fellowship Program.
James Staszko is the son of William and
Colleen Staszko. Jamie was a member of Student Council for all four years of high school. He was a member National Honor Society and Key Cub. As a junior, Jamie participated in the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. For three years, Jamie volunteered as a student instructor for the Scarborough Gym Dandies Circus program. Throughout high school, Jamie participated in soccer and lacrosse. Jamie received the Harvard Book Award. James was named a Top Scholar recipient at the University of Maine and in the fall will be pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Maine.
Aubrey Wagner is the daughter of Atheline and Larry Wagner. Aubrey participated in the swimming and lacrosse programs during all four years. She attended the Rippleffect Youth Leadership Summit. Aubrey spent the fall of her junior year exploring southern Africa with a semester program and plans to spend the 2008-2009 school year traveling in Turkey, Kenya, and areas of SouthEast Asia. In the fall of 2009, Aubrey will be attending Warren Wilson College
Aaron M. Wallof is the son of Walter and Pamela Wallof of Scarborough.He is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. Aaron received a First-place award for History Day at Scarborough High as a freshman. He has been a member of Key Club, Jazz Band and has played percussion in the Symphonic Band for four years. As a member of the Indoor Track Team, Aaron has received a first and third place award for relays at the Southwestern Division Meets. He also has a passion for lacrosse and plays on the JV/V teams. Aaron has been a speaker on Youth Sunday's at his church and has participated in a panel discussion on interracial adoption. He has accumulated over 300 hours of community service during his high school years, serving various organizations. Aaron will be attending Grove City College and will major in English Education.
Lauren Wetzel is the daughter of Sharon and Randy Wetzel. Lauren has been a member of the SHS concert and select choirs for four years. She also committed a considerable amount of time and dedication to the Musica de Filia (Girl's Choir of Maine), Chamber Choir which she has been singing in for eight years. She has participated in the Oak Hill Players productions for three years playing a leading role in her final year. She has been recognized as the only student to make All-States for vocals in her sophomore year and has since then participated in All-States one other time in her high school career. Lauren has participated in the District 1 Choral festival all four years. This year Lauren was a part of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program, and over the years has put in over 200 hours of community service with this and many other programs in the area including the KMCC Youth Advisory board which she is now co-facilitator of. Her community service activities granted her St. Lawrence book award last year. Lauren will be attending Hartwick College in the fall.
