Sarah Williams of Main Street, Richmond has been named Valedictorian of the Richmond High School Class of 2008. She is the daughter of Geoffrey and Kathy Williams. Sarah is a High Honors Student, attended Dirigo Girls State, and was awarded the MPA Principal's Award. She plays the Euphonium in the band and has marched in many Memorial and Veteran's Day parades. She is on both the soccer and basketball teams, and is a member of the National Honor Society.
She is a lector at her church and is very active in Youth Ministry, attending several statewide conventions. She has also been a Girl Scout for over 10 years, and has participated in Destination Imagination. In the summer she has worked at Richmond Summer Rec. teaching children to swim. She traveled to Europe last spring with the Foreign Language Club.
Sarah plans to attend the University of Maine in the fall and major in Civil Engineering. She plans to use her education to work with Historic Buildings. Her hobbies include: reading, swimming, watching movies, playing sports, and travel.
David Redmond, son of David and Karen Redmond, ranked second in the Class of 2008 in Richmond High School. He is a very dedicated worker, has maintained honors grades for his entire high school career, and strives to push himself further in his education. David moved to Richmond this last summer and has lived in many other places, including England, due to his father's enlistment in the Air Force. He plans to attend the University of Maine at Augusta, majoring in computer science. In the future, he would love to become a software engineer as he has a passion for computers and technology. In his spare time, David enjoys tinkering with computers as well as creating digital artwork.
Alexander Forsythe is the son of Dorothy Cuprak and Randall Forsythe, and is ranked third in the class of 2008. During his high school career he has been involved in many extracurricular activities, including Richmond High School's Outing Club, RHS's Agricultural Society, serving as treasurer of the National Honor's Society, and occasionally fencing with the Downeast School of Fencing. He has attended the District III Music Festival both in 2007 and 2008, in addition to performing in the Bay Chamber concert series and playing with the Colby College Wind Ensemble. In addition to music, he enjoys English and creative writing, and in 2007 he was recognized as a semifinalist in the Governor's statewide "A Journey Into Writing" competition.
Alex plans on attending Colby College in the fall of 2008 for a possible double major in English and Music.
Rachel Carter, daughter of Edward and Sharon Carter, is fourth in the graduating class at Richmond High School. During her four years at Richmond, she participated in Destination Imagination, taking second place at state level competition, the bowling club, the National Honor Society, where she holds the office of secretary, the student council, and as an academic assistant. Outside of school, she is the president of the Lucky Shepherds 4-H Club. At several fairs, where she shows her flock of Hampshire sheep, she has received the Shepherd's Award and the Sportsmanship Award. She is also the student representative to the Richmond Cable Committee.
Carter plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono as a Biological Engineering major.
Brandon Lancaster is ranked 5th in the class of 2008 at Richmond High School. Brandon is the son of Paul and Cheryl (Hurley) Lancaster. Brandon plans to attend the University of New England with a major in Bio-Chemistry/Pre-Pharmacy, a six-year doctorate program and a new offering at UNE. Brandon has been involved in many activities during his high school career. He has participated on Varsity soccer, basketball and baseball teams for all four years and served as team Captain in soccer and basketball his Senior year. He was a member of two Western Maine championship soccer teams and the state championship team of 2007. He was also a member of the Western Maine championship basketball teams of 2006 and 2008 as well a member of the Western Maine Baseball Championship team of 2006. He earned East/West Conference All Star designations in Soccer and Basketball as well as being named to the 2008 McDonald's Senior All-Star (basketball) and Academic All-Star teams in 2008 and the Capital City Hoop Classic All Star Team in 2007 and the KJ All Star Team in 2008. Brandon was the recipient of the American Legion Patriotism Award in 2001 and 2004 as well as being a Boys State delegate in 2007. Brandon is a member of the National Honor Society and served as class Vice President for two years. His community service activities have included volunteering as a youth basketball coach and referee, soccer camp volunteer, volunteering at a soup kitchen, youth literacy, breast cancer walk, veteran's and elderly citizen's home volunteer, church project volunteer, coats for kids collection and many project graduation fundraising activities. In his spare time, Brandon enjoys spending time with his family including his younger sisters, Brooke and Bryanne, as well as hanging out with his friends, playing golf and basketball.
Nicole Lilly is ranked 6th in her senior class. She is the daughter of Loren and Wendy Lilly. She is planning on going to Thomas College in the fall to study Sports Management and Fitness. During high school she was on the National Honors Society, served on the yearbook committee, and participated in Tae Kwon Do and Fitness Club. Nicole has served as a manager for both the varsity boys' soccer and basketball teams. During her senior year Nicole was a mentor at the Marcia Buker Elementary School and was an office assistant at the Richmond Town Office. Outside of school Nicole has worked at Wiggles and Giggles Daycare and recently started working at t "99"restaurant.
Rachel Scribellito, daughter of Joe and Cheryl Scribellito, is ranked seventh in her graduating class. After high school she plans on attending the University of Maine in Orono to study Elementary Education. She has been active in soccer all four years of her high school career, winning the Class D State Championship this year. She also has been the Baseball manager for the varsity team. Rachel is a National Honor Society member, Honor roll student and is treasurer of her class. She currently serves as a mentor at the Marcia Buker Elementary School. Outside of high school, Rachel works at Hannaford Supermarket and loves spending time with her family, especially now that she has a nephew
Emily Nicole Philbrick is ranked number eight in her class. Her parents are Dorothy Seigars and David Philbrick. After high school, she will be attending the University of Maine at Orono, where she will major in accounting and minor in theatre. Emily enjoys participating in the drama club, as well as playing first clarinet in the school band. This year, Emily was selected to the District III Honors Festival, where she played third clarinet. Outside of school, Emily enjoys hanging out with her friends, or serving up ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery.
Alicia Rice will graduate ranked ninth in the class of 2008 at Richmond High School. She is the daughter of Richard Rice and Julia Hughes. Alicia's plan for after high school is to attend the University of Maine at Farmington, where she will study to become an elementary school teacher. Alicia has participated in both soccer and basketball, during her high school years. She traveled to Europe with the Foreign Language Club in 2006 and was an active Prom Committee member.
Alicia has served on the Garnet yearbook staff and is her class secretary. During her senior year Alicia mentored at the Marcia Buker Elementary School. Her outside activities include working and spending time with family and friends.
Veronica Smith is ranked 10th in the Class of 2008. Her parents are Kevin Smith Sr. and Debra Smith of Richmond. Veronica plans to attend the University of Southern Maine after graduating from high school. Veronica has participated in cheerleading, softball, and cross-country. She traveled to Europe with the Foreign Language Club in 2006 and served as a Garnet yearbook staff member and Library Media Assistant during her senior year. Veronica has been a member of the Richmond High School chorus all four years of her high school career. She is interested in animals and nature and enjoys watching sports and shopping.
