Marshwood High School

Top of the Class

Valedictorian, Steven P. Higgins is the son of Scott and Brenda Higgins of Eliot. In school, he is part of the math team, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, and has been a class officer since sophomore year. Through his high school career he received the Marshwood Math Award, and Marshwood French Award, freshman, sophomore and junior years. Steven was also recognized by Phi Beta Kappa, is an RPI Medalist, and was recently named a National Merit Finalist. This fall he will be attending the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts, with a full tuition scholarship majoring in mechanical engineering. He hopes to continue into the aerospace or biomedical field upon graduation.


Salutatorian, Colleen W. Fitzpatrick is the daughter of James and Terry Fitzpatrick of South Berwick. She plays as a midfielder on the field hockey team, a thrower on the indoor and outdoor track teams, and specializes in geometry on the math team. She has been a varsity captain, a National Merit Finalist, and a semi-finalist in the Presidential Scholar competition. Last summer she represented Marshwood at the Girls' State conference, and also enjoys volunteering at youth sports programs and at the Eliot Methodist Church. She plans to attend Williams College in the fall and may be pursuing an interest in psychology and biology.


Michael N. Perchonok, is the son of Margarita Shugol of South Berwick and the late Arkady Perchonok. He has been involved in the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Interact Club, math team and the varsity tennis team, playing first singles. He has had high honors every semester of high school. Michael was the recipient of the Harvard Prize Book Award and Aimee Schramm Book Award in addition to Marshwood High School departmental awards in Calculus, US History, and Biology in 2007. He was also selected by the South Berwick Rotary Club to represent Marshwood High School at the World Affairs Seminar in the summer of 2007. Michael plans to attend Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in the fall to pursue a degree in Economics and/or applied Mathematics. He aspires to work in the world of finance and stock trading. Michael would like to dedicate all of his academic and personal successes to his family and especially to his father Arkady Perchonok, who died of lung cancer on November 4th, 2006.


Joshua T. Avery is the youngest of four children begat by Mr. William and Mrs. Rae Avery of South Berwick. During high school Josh participated in indoor and outdoor track and the math team and was also a member of the National Honor Society. He will attend Colby College in the fall where he plans to double major in biology and government, with a possible minor in something even more unrelated. He offers special thanks to his family for their love and support, as well as his friends.


Anabel L. Wold is the daughter of John and Katherine Wold of South Berwick. As a student at Marshwood High School, she served as Vice President of the Student Government, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been a captain of the ski team for two years. She was awarded the Maine State Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, as well as the Aimee Schramm Book Award, the Williams College Book Award, and the Most Valuable Player Award on the ski team. She has also interned for the Hillary Clinton campaign and played the piano since age seven. Next year she will be attending New York University. She would like to thank her family, friends, and educators for all of their tremendous support.


Matthew R. Vaillancourt is the son of Roderick and Theresa Vaillancourt of South Berwick. Throughout his years at Marshwood, he has received awards such as Algebra I and Summa Cum Laude in Latin. He has been recognized as Most Improved Writer, and he has been inducted into the National Honor Society and Modern Music Masters. In the summer of 2006, Matt researched for the University of New Hampshire and he presented his work at the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, California. Matt has participated in Select Choir, musicals and plays, and other various clubs. This summer he will be performing in the ensemble of The Pirates of Penzance at the Hackmatack Playhouse. Next year Matt will be attending the University of Maine Orono, with a full tuition scholarship to study Chemical Engineering.


Karl T. Koch is the son of Jeffrey and Vicki Koch of Eliot. Karl is a member of the National Honor Society, the math team and the French Honor Society, and was also a member of the Cinematography Club. Outside of school, Karl has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. Karl will be attending Bentley College in the fall, majoring in business. He plans to one day be an accountant.


Justin C. Rouse is the son of Stewart and Karen Rouse of Eliot. As a student at Marshwood High School Justin serves as the Student Government President, the Vice President of National Honor Society and as one of the student representatives to the district's school board. He has also been the captain of the varsity cross country, indoor, and outdoor track teams. Justin attended the American Legion's Boy's State, where he was elected to serve as the program's Governor, and Boys Nation program in Washington D.C. Next year he will be attending Colby College in Waterville Maine, to pursue a double major in government and economics. He wants to thank his family, friends and educators who helped him achieve these accomplishments.


Laura E. Burns is the daughter of Bob and Beth Burns of South Berwick. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Laura has played varsity soccer, lacrosse, and tennis, has been a member of the National Honor Society, and served as class secretary. In the fall Laura will be attending Villanova University, majoring in business. Laura would like to thank her family and friends for their support.


Kelsey E. McGreevy is the daughter of Arthur and Susan McGreevy of South Berwick. She participates in the varsity tennis team at Marshwood High School. Kelsey is a member of the executive board of student government, Historian of the National Honor Society, and student mentoring. She was granted the Clarkson University Achievement Award, and recognized with scholar athlete all through high school, as well as, honor roll. Kelsey plans on attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst to study in the field of civil engineering. She gives much thanks to her family and friends for everything.
