Top of the Class

Abishag Suresh, Valedictorian of Naples, daughter of Abraham & Viji Suresh

First in her class, Abishag is the recipient of the Excellence in Mathematics Award and was a member of the math team. She also received the Eugene Whitney Science Award, the Golden Globe Social Studies Award and the World Language FLAME Award. Abby was the recipient of the Williams College Book Award, Phi Beta Kappa Award and the Society of Women Engineers Award. She was National Honor Society secretary, a Lions Club student of the month and participated in drama productions. Abby is the recipient of the Dr. Charles J. McDonald Memorial Scholarship and the Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship. She volunteers at Central Maine Medical Center, the Windham Assembly of God church and the Naples Public Library. She enjoys playing the piano, reading and hanging out with friends. Abby will pursue her love of biology at Bowdoin College in the fall.


Molly Shaw, Salutatorian of Naples, daughter of Ron & Patricia Shaw

Molly finished second in her class and is the recipient of the Excellence in French Award and was a Voice of Democracy essay contest winner. She was a member of National Honor Society, President of Interact Club, Student Council treasurer, a Lions Club student of the month and was honored for her exceptional work on the school newspaper. Molly was selected "The Next Bill Gates" senior superlative by her class. She was honored by the Varsity Club as a two-sport athlete participating in cross country running and tennis all four years. She received WMC Academic All-Star recognition for the fall in cross country running. Molly is the recipient of the Naples Scholarship Foundation Award, the North Sebago United Methodist Church Circle Award, the Ronald Belanger Scholarship and the Theodore E. Nutting Scholarship. Molly enjoys her volunteer activities with Interact, tutoring students at LRMS and Crooked River Elementary School as well as shopping for gifts for needy children. Her hobbies include hanging with friends, shopping, cooking and playing with her golden retriever. Molly will attend the University of Maine at Orono Honors College where she will study communications and journalism.


Amanda Place, Honor Essayist of Naples, daughter of Tim & Beth Place

Third in her class, Amanda was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and is the recipient of the Western Maine Conference Citizenship Award and the Excellence in Spanish 4 Award. She was secretary/treasurer of the Varsity Club, treasurer of the National Honor Society, a Lions Club student of the month and treasurer of Interact Club. Amanda was recognized by the Varsity Club as a three-sport athlete, participating in field hockey, indoor track and tennis. She received WMC Academic All Star recognition in the fall for field hockey and in the winter for indoor track. Amanda is the recipient of the Bridgton-Lakes Region Rotary Book Scholarship, the Daniel McGowan Hays Bridgton-Lakes Region Rotary Club Scholarship and the Naples Scholarship Foundation Award. She loves being involved in her community tutoring at Crooked River Elementary School and helping at Camp Sunshine and Casco Days. Down time for Amanda is playing tennis with friends, knitting and just having fun. She will attend Gordon College in Wenham, MA where she plans to pursue her love of education and become an elementary school teacher with a major in Spanish.


Nora Antonio of Bridgton, daughter of George Antonio & Sarah Ingraham

Nora was secretary of her class and a Lions Club student of the month. She was Vice President of the AFS and a member of Interact Club. Her class bestowed upon her the senior superlative yearbook honor of ÔMost Secretly Admired'. She was also honored for participating in at least two sports a year by the Varsity Club. She was a talented athlete competing on the cross country running team in the fall, the winter competition cheer team and the track and field team in the spring. She was a fall WMC Academic All Star in cross country running and winter cheering and was selected as a Hancock Lumber Player of the Week in the fall and winter seasons. Nora is the recipient of the Bridgton High School Scholarship Foundation Henry Shorey Memorial Scholarship and the Andy Sanborn Memorial Scholarship. She also received the Bridgton Lions Club Educational Grant, the Kendal C. & Anna Ham Charitable Foundation Scholarship and the Reny Charitable Foundation Scholarship. Nora volunteers at Harvest Hills Animal Shelter and is a tutor at Crooked River Elementary School. She enjoys snowboarding in her down time. Nora received the McAuley Scholarship which she will put to good use at St. Joseph's College in the fall. She is undecided on her field of study.


Neisha Bruns of Bridgton, daughter of Scott and Amy Bruns

Voted most artistic in the senior class, Neisha received the Outstanding Achievement in Art Award. Her amazing art collection was on exhibit at Gallery 302 and the Portland Museum of Art. She placed 3rd in the Maine Congressional Art Competition. Neisha is the recipient of the Kendal C. & Anna Ham Charitable Foundation Scholarship. She is a student ambassador with People to People and enjoys art, music, having fun and writing. Neisha loves sharing her love of art with others and plans to continue her studies in studio art at the University of Southern Maine and then travel the world and meet new people.


Kristen Burke of Casco, daughter of Lorie Merriam

Kristen graduated with high honors from LRHS. She came to Lake Region from Andover High School in Massachusetts where she was active in SADD, mock trial and other school clubs. She was involved in Youth Court and was a leader of Sunday school, vacation bible school, mentoring and peer counseling. Kristen enjoys working, child care and being involved in her church as well as reading, crocheting and hanging out with friends. She plans to attend Gordon College to study early childhood education and psychology after which she plans to enjoy her career, travel and start a family.


Julia Davis of South Casco, daughter of Linda Davis & Steve Davis

Julia was very involved throughout her high school career at Lake Region. She was Vice President of Student Council and a member of National Honor Society, Varsity Club and Rotary Interact Club. Julia was a senior mentor and a Lions Club student of the month. She is the recipient of the Betty & Sumner O. Hancock Scholarship, the Lake Region High School Student Council Scholarship and the Lake Region Teachers' Association Scholarship. Julia was a two sport athlete and was honored by the Varsity Club for her many contributions to varsity field hockey and track and field. She received WMC Academic All-Star honors in field hockey. She was involved in her community volunteering at Crooked River Elementary School and giving dance lessons. She is a talented dancer and loved participating on a dance competition team. Julia will attend Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI where she will pursue her passion in dance and business.


Brittany Denbow of Naples, daughter of Wendy Day & Deasy Edwards

Brittany demonstrated great determination by graduating in the top 10% of her class juggling her many family and school responsibilities. Brittany kept busy at school by being involved in National Honor Society, band and cheering. Her class recognized her musical talent as she was voted senior superlative "Best Noise" in the yearbook. She is the recipient of the Bridgton Hospital Guild Hazel Cook & Emily Richards Scholarships, the Crooked River Elementary School Scholarship, the Keep My Spirit Fund Scholarship, the Mountain View Dentistry Award and the Songo Locks School Scholarship. She enjoyed her volunteer time at Camp Susan Curtis and Stephen's Memorial Hospital. In her spare time, Brittany enjoys playing her flute, knitting and reading. She plans to follow her dream to the University of New England and study pre-pharmacy.


Rachel Ferland of Casco, daughter of Robert & Jocelyn Ferland

Rachel was an active member of her class on and off the field. Her classmates honored her with the senior superlative yearbook honor "Most Pimped-out Ride". She was a member of band, jazz band, the math team, National Honor Society, Coffee Talk Book Club and Varsity Club. She was selected as a Lions Club student of the month for May. She is the recipient of the Betty & Sumner O. Hancock Scholarship Fund Scholarship, the Songo Locks School Scholarship and the Bridgton-Lakes Region Rotary Book Scholarship. Her love of sports kept her busy outside the classroom. The Varsity Club recognized her as a three-sport athlete with major contributions to field hockey, indoor track and tennis. Rachel was selected a WMC All Academic All-Star in field hockey and indoor track and was a WMC All Conference 2nd team selection in field hockey. Her community involvement centered around her church youth group and food pantry where she spent many hours contributing to wherever she was needed. Rachel will pursue her love of sports at the University of New England where she will major in athletic training after which she plans to travel the world.


Hannah Fillmore-Patrick of Bridgton, daughter of John & Heidi Fillmore-Patrick

Hannah graduated with high honors. Her involvement in Natural Helpers, the Math Team, National Honor Society and Varsity Club kept her involved in the heart of the school. She was the recipient of the Cornell Book Award. Hannah's love of the outdoors was recognized by the Varsity Club for her contributions to sports over the last four years. She was selected a WMC Academic All-Star in the fall for cross country running and in the winter for Nordic skiing. She enjoys her involvement in her church as a volunteer and spends her spare time on her hobbies: skiing, drawing and keeping active outdoors. She plans to pursue a degree in environmental science at Colby College and then join the Peace Corps.


Kate Hansen of Naples, daughter of Raymond & Sena Hansen

Kate took a leap of faith her junior year and traveled to Germany as an AFS student and emerged herself in her adopted school and community. What an experience her amazing year abroad was! She returned to Lake Region for her senior year excited to share her experiences and stories of her travels with her classmates and fellow AFS members. She didn't miss a heart beat getting involved again in the class and community she had left behind. Kate received the Outstanding Progress in Mathematics Award. She was involved in Community Connections and volunteered at Crooked River Elementary School. She enjoys running, golf, reading, spending time with friends and just being happy and helping others along the way. Kate plans to move to Colorado where she will attend the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she received the Chancellor's Non-Resident Scholarship and pursue a degree in the science of nursing and become a nurse anesthetist.


Hironori Koroki, AFS student from Toyohashi, Japan

Hiro has enjoyed his stay at LRHS and was honored with the Outstanding Progress in Mathematics Award. He participated in "High School Musical" and Show Choir. He was involved with the AFS Club and was admired by students and staff for his kindness and happy-go-lucky attitude. He has a great sense of humor which always helps with any situation especially with making friends. His hobby is playing basketball and was excited to be a member of the JV basketball team. Hiro plans to return to Toyota National College of Technology to study electrical engineering.


Krysti Leach of Naples, daughter of Gordon & Loralee Leach

Krysti is the quintessential scholar and athlete. She graduated with high honors and received the Western Maine Conference Citizenship Award. Her love of science came through as she received the Excellence in AP Biology Award and the Excellence in Forensic Science Award. President of her class and Varsity Club President, she was also selected as a Lions Club student of the month for June and was a member of the National Honor Society and AFS Club. Krysti is the recipient of the Dr. John Bischoffberger Scholarship, the Naples Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and the Naples Grange #94 Scholarship. Voted "Most Likely to MVP" by her class in the yearbook, the Varsity Club recognized her as a talented tri- athlete excelling in three sports. Captain in all three, she contributed with heart and soul on the varsity girls soccer team, the Western Maine Class B championship varsity girls basketball team (times 3) and the outdoor track team. She qualified for the states with her incredible Javelin throws and continues to be among the top sprinters in the league. Among her many athletic awards, Krysti was selected a WMC Academic All-Star in all three sports. She was recognized as a Hancock Lumber Player of the Week, received All Conference recognition in soccer and basketball and played on the WMC Senior All Star basketball team. She volunteers at Casco Days and shares her athletic talent in youth basketball and track programs. Krysti plans to attend Gordon College in Wenham, MA and study pre-med.

Maggie graduated from Lake Region with high honors. She emerged herself into the life of the school during her year at LRHS and was a busy member of the Class of 2008. Always found with a smile on her face, she divided her time between several school clubs including the drama club, Rotary Interact Club, Coffee Talk Book Club, AFS Club and the National Honor Society. She participated in show choir and was welcomed into the visual arts circle with open arms. A talented artist, Maggie was honored to have her art work exhibited at the Youth Art Month Celebration at Museum of Art in Portland. She enjoys drawing, playing guitar and piano and writing. Maggie will return to Poland to finish high school and plans to return to New England for college to major in biology/pre-med.


Shafira Nindya Putri AFS Exchange student from Jakarta, Indonesia
Hosted in Sebago, host daughter of Jason & Cathy Green

Shafira graduated with high honors. She was a serious scholar while at Lake Region but also found time to participate in school and community activities. She was a member of the AFS Club, Student Council and the Drama Club. She loved taking part in "High School Musical" and made many friends. Her love of dancing led her to volunteer at Wanda Plummer's Dance School. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Sebago Fire Department Pancake Breakfast. Shafira loves to watch movies, listen to music and write. She received the Youth Exchange Study "YES" Scholarship 07-08 from the AFS USA Program. She plans to attend the University of Indonesia in Jakarto and earn a bachelor degree in law or international relations, work for UNICEF or broadcasting and get a master's degree at a university in the United States.


Anna Stewart of Naples, daughter of Marcia Stewart

Anna was a two sport athlete in field hockey and tennis earning 2nd Team All Conference and Western Maine Conference Academic All Star status in field hockey. She is the recipient of the Bridgton Business & Professional Women's Club Scholarship. Anna will attend the University of Southern Maine to study business. Her future plans include becoming a business owner and having a family.


Timothy Strain of South Casco, son of John & Mary Strain

Tim finished his high school career with many accolades for his talented writing contributions to the school newspaper. He was always looking outside the box for a different angle to capture the "heart" of the story. It is no wonder he received the Excellence in English Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award for the school newspaper. He was treasurer of his class and a member of the National Honor Society.
Tim was chosen "Most Likely to Succeed" by his classmates. He participated in drama and musical productions during his high school career. He was a Western Maine Conference Academic All Star in cross country running and was honored by the Varsity Club for participating in one sport a year. He is the recipient of the Betty & Sumner O. Hancock Scholarship Fund/Lois Varney Award, the Casco Fire Association Scholarship and the Theodore E. Nutting Scholarship. Tim is an active member of the Casco Village Church. He enjoys movies, running, writing and having a good time. He will attend Emerson College in Boston and major in print and multimedia journalism.


Amy Tragert of Naples, daughter of John & Kathleen Tragert

Amy is recognized as one of the most well rounded scholar athletes at LRHS. She challenged herself in the classroom and on the field and slopes. She is the recipient of the prestigious Maine Principals' Association Award. She received the Excellence in Latin Award and was a Lions Club student of the month. Amy was National Honor Society President, Interact Club Vice President as well as a member of the student council and varsity club. She earned WMC All Academic/All Conference honors in alpine skiing and was honored as a three sport athlete by the Varsity Club. Amy is the recipient of the Hazel F. Cook National Honor Society Scholarship, the Lake Region Teachers' Association Scholarship, the Mountain View Dentistry Award, the Naples Scholarship Foundation Award and the Russ Haggett Memorial Scholarship. Her community service included being a volunteer coach to teach skiing to 7-10 year olds at Sunday River. Amy enjoys backpacking, wakeboarding, skiing and having fun. She has been accepted into the Honor's College at the University of Maine at Orono to study chemistry and plans to pursue a career in medicine.


Tareyn Vigna of North Bridgton, daughter of Maureen Harpell & Bernie Vigna

Tareyn's major contributions to the Class of 2008 yearbook earned her the Outstanding Achievement Yearbook Award. She was a National Honor Society member and participated in school musicals. Tareyn was selected as a Rotary Club citizen of the month for April. She is the recipient of the Bridgton High School Scholarship Foundation George M. Oberg Memorial Scholarship and John T. Gyger, Jr. Memorial Scholarship and the Kendal C. & Anna Ham Charitable Foundation Scholarship. She volunteered at Camp Sunshine and was involved in several NHS community service projects. Tareyn's love of photography and traveling will serve her well as she pursues a career in photography and international studies at the University of Maine at Farmington.
