I n many towns across southern Maine, the weekly high school football game is a must-see event – bringing together people from the community in an atmosphere that’s steeped in tradition and ceremony.

Every Friday this fall in the Portland Press Herald, "Beyond the Scoreboard" will offer an in-depth look at what makes these events so special.

Reporter Glenn Jordan and staff photographer John Ewing will offer a unique perspective on the participants on the field and the people who work behind the scenes to make football the most popular of all high school sports in Maine.
