Rockin' with Olympia and Al
If seemed weird enough that former Vice President Al Gore is organizing a global rock concert with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg and Korn. (Does Tipper know about that?)
The "Live Earth" concert is scheduled to take place July 7 on seven continents, including a show in the eastern United States, to draw attention to global climate change. Other performers include Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Fall Out Boy, the Police, Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson and Maine’s own Ray LaMontagne.
Now this: Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, announced this week she is getting involved in the planning, too.
Snowe and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, have sponsored a resolution to allow a free “Live Earth” concert on the Capitol Grounds in Washington, D.C. Other possible sites have included New York and Philadelphia. With Maine left off the short list (a senator has only so much power), Snowe is throwing her support behind D.C. "Live Earth promises to be a wonderful concert and a monumental event," she said in her written announcement, "and I can think of no better venue."

Who will "off-set" the "carbon footprint" of the massive amounts of pollution neccessarily emitted to bring all this together, the planes, trucks, heavy equipment, cars and busses, the energy used to light massive areas, cook, clean, etc, to say nothing of waste disposal.
Poor clueless Olympia. How the mighty have fallen, indeed.
One measure of why every prediction of Al Gore's science fiction slide-show is not truly believed by the faithful is the fact that ocean-front property is not going down in price, nor are those drinkers of the KoolAid even slowing down in buying property that they confess to believe will be under-water in a very short time. Hmmmmm.

Watch out climate change deniers, or Bill Brasky will put a carbon footprint on your face.

At least "Vast.." now knows what a carbon footprint is. I suppose there's good science and bad science (and no science in Kansas schools) but denial of change going on in world climate is cosmic head-in-the-sand stuff at this point. Unless you live under a rock, then it's head-under-a-rock.
I'm glad Mr. Gore or Senator Snowe are calling attention to the innovation camp once again - and out of the burn, burn, burn camp foisted on us by Oil Companies and their political slaves. While living responsibly is important, the real way out of this has less to do with turning down thermostats than it does turning off the oil spicket with new ideas - something we used to be good at in America. Vast, and the oil dudes that have his mind in their pocket, are losing clout not just because they're now understood to be self serving little snits, but because in spite of every trick in the political book, the innovaters are coming back to kick their buts.

Dear Reader,
If you look at the information conatained in the attached link to the NY Times you might not say it is classis head in the sand. But then again if you head is always in the sand you would not know the difference.

Boy he knows how to push things. I personaly do not think he knows what he talking about. 20 years age it was planet cooling and a new ice age. I do not have $10,000 to pay for my carbon footprint. Wish he go back to TN. and leave me alone.
Also I have always voted for Olympia BUT NO more.
Haveing said this I DO THINK we should do everything possable to clean up the environment and get off oil BUT how are we going to do that when it can not be done in my back yard.

Jeep, I had read, and read again the NYT's article you mention. Yes, it says some "reasonable" scientists are still not convinced about details, but on the whole Gore has it 'largely correct.' But I doubt you will ever come around so long as one or two people espouse your view - so be it. Buy land in Holland, invest in Polar Bear futures, and have a lovely lunch with Dick Cheney. Unfortunately the you and the dinosaurs will keep denying it so long as your Exon stock goes up.
