It's the end of another week, so let's run down some of the possibilities for this weekend, which include, but are not limited to, staying in with a warm Snuggie.

I'll freely admit the schedule around here on the NXT Desk has been a little off for a few weeks. But it looks like we're getting back to normal, and there's no better normal than the weekly Scanner.

Let's run through a hypothetical situation here: You're a college baseball player at a Division I school who enjoys posting pictures from your weekend escapades on your Facebook page. Monday morning you wake up to a notice from the dean's office: you've violated the college's student code of conduct.

But how could they know? Because they're scanning Facebook.

Before we jump into all the crazy shenanigans you can get yourself into this weekend, I have to make one quick programming note.

Some of you may already know, but here's the headline: I'm going to DC next week on the Press Herald's Inauguration Squad. I'll be in the district from Sunday through Wednesday and blogging the bejeebus out of it.

So logistically speaking, things will be a little quiet around here for a few days. You will be able to find me over on Political Extra, where I will be live-blogging throughout Tuesday.

But in the meantime, there are things to get into this weekend.

Been busy working on a side-project lately that some of you may already know about it. We'll talk about it more tomorrow. But in the meantime, let The Scanner ease your overburdened mind. Let the bounty of the Internets wash over you.

Start of a new year and already Videoport Jones has a candidate for worst DVD release of the year.

He's a realist, and that's why we keep him around.

We've made it another week and fortunately it's not hazardous just to walk out your front door.

That sounds like reason to celebrate by heading out for a show and a beer to me.

We like to appreciate the small things around the NXT Desk.

First time I fired up the Scanner in 2009 and it ran like a dream. I take it as a good sign that no matter how times change or how crappy the economy gets, the Internet never seems to run out of hilarious, disturbing and downright bizarre stuff.

Dive in.

In times like this cheap and free are our friends, because even if you have money you don't necessarily want to part with it.

That may work out fine for most of us, but think about your favorite non-profit or community group. Are they going to make it?
The answer is maybe, and that could depend on you.

I laughed, I cried, I ate too, too much pork. And that was just in one day while watching the Vikings.

Having returned from my annual voyage back to Minnesota (literally a 26 hour around-the-clock voyage by car) it's time to get the NXT Desk in order for 2009.
