The Scanner: Superhero day jobs, bacon-up your life and 100 ways to destroy a Peep

We just seem to be running behind schedule on the NXT Desk this week. Fear not, I think The Scanner will make up for it this week. It's got peeps, bacon, cute pets and a horrific new twist in The Snuggie.

I applaud the initiative of "This is Why Your Pet is Fat. Hilarious and cute. And it makes me think of my beefy little dog Turk who tried to eat a pulled pork sandwich the other night.

Consumerist asks the question we'd all like answered: Which company is worse, Wayne Enterprises or Stark Industries?

This is diabolical and hilarious: 100 Ways to Kill a Peep.

True fact! Using Facebook, YouTube or Twitter is good for you, according to a new survey. (Thanks to Suzi.) [Wired]

Another blow to parents! Apparently playing first-person shooter videogames can also be good for your health! [io9]

Bravo. Whoever this guy is, he gets respect for answering the question what would it be like if Michael Bay made cereal commercials? [BuzzFeed

Ask yourself this, how well do you know your famous guys with beards? Or who at least experimented with a beard. You know...we've all been there. [Mental Floss.]

Take Star Wars with you to the beach with these Star Wars inflatables! That's no beach ball...it's THE DEATH STAR!

Want to be fashionable, yet dangerous? Try the Swordbrella. The weapon of choice of gentlemen everywhere. [Neatorama]

Getting pumped up for the Star Wars reboot? Try this recreation of Star Trek scenes...in Legos. [Wired]

Big online video news this week with ABC/Disney/ESPN reaching an agreement with YouTube for online video. But Gizmo says there may still be some Hulu action in the mouse's future.

For the discerning and fashionable nerd bachelor in your life, Guitar Hero cufflinks, gilded Atari rings and more. [Engadget]

While interesting, this map of the best beer in America seems to rely heavily on the big breweries. Thoughts?

DUNKIN FANS! (And I know there are a lot of them in the Northeast) Did you know the double D is having a "design a donut contest?" You too can create the next double-chocolate, candy-topped diabetes torpedo. [Pop Candy]

Not worried about robots overthrowing humanity yet? Consider these companies that already use droids in their day-to-day operations. [Mental Floss]

If you haven't seen it yet - this Iron Man vs. Bruce Lee action figure battle is shades of awesome. [Hero Complex]

Also, this photo gallery of superheroes at their day jobs is equally awesome.

For all the other Battlestar Galactica fans out there still sad over the finale, just know that President Obama is with you.

We already knew the Snuggie was frightening, so what do we make of this monstrosity?

Finally, some one truly explores all the ways bacon can improve your everyday life. (Thanks to Josh)

Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the Monday Magazine.

If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture," covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.

Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer, redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life would sound like.

When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain America.

Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and what they do.
