Facebook announces change, uproar to follow?
Facebook just keeps getting itself in the news lately. Today they've announced some changes that will have an immediate impact on how members use the social networking site.
The Facebook team, led by founder Mark Zuckerberg, announced changes to personal pages and how members interact with each other, which will go into effect next week. The biggest changes coming to Facebook involve a redesigned homepage where members can better filter and manage the information coming in. The consensus from many early reports is that Facebook will be allowing more real-time updates on friends' status in members' stream/news feed.
Some say it may be a move to stop Twitter from eating a part of their lunch.
The other big change will be the removal of the 5,000 friend cap on the number of people members can have in their network. While not many people are close to that mark (according to Facebook), big companies, media outlets, celebrities and media outlets are eager to reach out to more people.
As part of this new launch, pages for CNN, U2, President Obama are going live today.
Of course now we can only wait to see the fallout from the masses on Facebook. Change doesn't seem to come easily on Facebook, judging from the recent hits Zuckerberg and Co. have taken over the Beacon advertising program and changes to the terms of use.
Here's a round-up of what some people are already saying about the changes:
