The Weekend: Feel It Robot , Pretty & Nice, The School Spirit Mafia and Cash 4 Old
My schedule's a little topsy turvy this weekend as I'll be on monitor duty here at Press Herald Plaza. So this weekend blog will be a little succinct. But don't worry, there's still plenty to do. And for your sake don't do something stupid over the next 48 hours, otherwise I may be writing about you.
Also on the line-up card Friday night, Black Pyramid, Ruler of the Raging Main and Hoboe are at Geno's starting at 9 p.m. Over at The White Heart DJ Shade is on the turntables starting at 9 p.m. As always, it's free.
SATURDAY
The purveyors of new uptown funk Miss Fairchild are back and releasing some new songs on "Won't Be Your Kept Woman." Get a chance to hear the new cuts and of course work up a serious sweat dancing at Empire tonight. Also on tap are Atomik. Show starts at 9 p.m.
The other big tickets this weekend? The man of a thousand bands, Spencer Albee, has another project in the works and they are pulling back the curtain on some all new material tonight at SPACE Gallery. Spencer and the School Spirit Mafia are headlining with Sara Hallie Richardson opening up. Doors open at 9 p.m. and it's a $7 entry. Also on tap? Try Bubba's, where the clock is getting turned forward a decade on the retro vibe with "I Love The 90s." Show starts at 9 p.m. and it's $4 to get in.
Finally, here's your weekend video. Thanks to these tough economic times we're all faced with unthinkable decisions just to get by. While some are choosing to part with their unwanted or old jewelry...have you considered selling off old loved ones? Think about it.
Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove
it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine
Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the
Monday Magazine.
If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture,"
covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college
debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music
scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa
Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.
Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of
Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer,
redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life
would sound like.
When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain
America.
Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and
what they do.
