The Monday Fix: Wife Carrying, tech toys and The Late Show
My friends, I've been a bad, bad blogger, this I know. Last week was a hectic one here on the combined NXT/Political Affairs Desk. It's actually quite the messy desk at the moment. Last week I got tied up in election projects, including a few videos of the paper's endorsement interviews with Senate and Congressional candidates.
I'll try to make it up to you this week, I promise.
ITEM 1: Over-the-shoulder wife holder
- DID YOU KNOW this weekend was the 9th Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship? Neither did I. But apparently Ri Fahnestock and Sarah Silverberg won the whole shebang (shecarry?), which includes a 278-yard obstacle course.
- What exactly does the winner walk away with? If you guessed a wife's weight in Bud Light you are correct. I...I can't even begin to touch that joke, but feel free.
- How Stuff Works has a handy look at how wife carrying contests work.
ITEM 2: Apple, Google, promise new toys
- This week marks two big events in the tech goodies world, as Apple is unveiling a new laptop and T-Mobile is releasing the first phone to run Google's Android operating system.
- Gizmodo offers this round-up of rumors on the new Macbook upgrades and other shineyness.
- Engadget digs up an early user-review of the T-Mobile G1 that shows promising signs. The phone is already being talked up as a combination of the iPhone and a Sidekick...which may be a good thing.
ITEM 3: Letterman, McCain to have couples therapy
- Mark your calendar for Thursday, because one day after the last Presidential Debate, John McCain will be going on The Late Show with David Letterman. This comes after the Republican presidential candidate famously canceled an earlier appearance when he was suspending his campaign to go back to Washington D.C. to help solve the bailout bill crisis.
- Some of you may recall Dave felt jilted and did not shy away from talking about it. A lot.
