This Week in Bacon: Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburgers
Things have been picking up around the NXT Desk in the last week and we're getting involved in a few projects and new endeavors. But that's a post for a different time. Long story short, we'll need to keep today's blog short and on point.
And what better motivation than bacon?
Behold the "Luther Burger," otherwise known as a delicious bacon cheeseburger on a sweet glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut.
Apparently these miracles of culinary science were served at the Google offices in New York City to celebrate a staff member's birthday.
This genius concoction is not new to the foodie world. While the origins of the burger are debatable (some say it gets it's name from deceased R&B singer Luther Vandross, who was a fan.) the burger can be found in restaurants and greasy spoon diners around the country. (Anyone found one in Maine?)
Anyone that has had any type of dessert with bacon knows the sweet and savory combo is a proven winner. (Silly's "What's Shakin' Bacon" milkshake - peanut butter and bacon on top - comes to mind.)
Grab a couple of Tony's Donuts and a few slices of the good thick cut stuff before the next time you cook up some burgers and you too can tame the pig.
Or better yet, take the doughnuts and head to your favorite local burger spot and beg for a favor from the chef. (Which spot do you think would be most open to the Luther?)
If that's not enough and you're really looking to speed up the death clock, why nor pair your Luther Burger with a Bacon Maple Bar from Voodoo Doughnut in Seattle.
I feel my arteries already hardening in anticipation.
(Thanks to NXT reader ac for the Bacon Maple Bar link!)

Holy cow! I thought the Pizza Hut mac 'n' cheese with bacon would be the next thing I tried, but this, this is just stupendous! I'd probably fall asleep after 2, well, maybe 3 bites. Okay, maybe just one more bite. I wonder if I could theoretically get it with bleu cheese, or do you think brie would go better w/donuts?
Bacon is also good for draping over roast pork loin before roasting. Makes it come out moist and delicious and then you have crispy bacon strips besides.
