On the Road to ROFLCon

Ask yourself these questions:
- Do you respect the force of nature that is Chuck Norris?
- Do you enjoy Stuff White People Like?
- Do you find cute pictures of cats and grammatically challenged headlines?

If so, there's something going on at M.I.T. this weekend you might be interested in.

As you read this, I am on the road down to ROFLCon and what promises to be an interesting day.

ROFLCon is a first of its kind conference/convention/meet-up dedicated to all the weird and funny stuff that the Interwebs provide us with.

Some people like to call them Internet Memes, but you probably know them as the things that make you laugh and the things that catch fire and become almost inescapable on the Internet.

The conference unfolds over the next two days in discussions on what Internet fame means, what new media is allowing people to do online, connecting the people who create content with those who love it and also general awesomeness.

Some of the crowd expected to be on hand:

The HomeStarrunner Guys
Rocketboom
MC Frontalot
The good people at Mozilla, makers of Firefox
Laughing Squid
Diesel Sweeties

And the list goes on and on.

Look for some live-blogging throughout the day. I've got some great interviews lined up but don't want to jinx it just yet!

Keep checking back or follow the updates on the NXT Twitter Feed!

Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the Monday Magazine.

If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture," covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.

Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer, redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life would sound like.

When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain America.

Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and what they do.
