What was that? (Hoops & Party Edition)

I've been remiss in updating the NXT Hoops Challenge and Bracketstravaganza this week, mostly out of the sickness I felt after watching Monday night's NCAA final.

The winner of this year's NXT Hoops Challenge and Bracket-stravaganza is none other than Kevin "Mr. Cardinal" Wack.

You may know Kevin in his other capacity as a writer for this establishment as well one of our rising political bloggers.

I also know Kevin as a die-hard college basketball junkie and absolute homer for Stanford athletics. (The man can talk about the Lopez Brothers for hours).

Only three out of 18 people picked Kansas (it hurts me to just type that) to win the tournament. One was a Jayhawk alum, the other the fiancee of a Missouri alum. (Be strong Matt, be strong.)

So KWack can look forward to receiving his custom-made NXT-desk designed T-shirt in the mail soon.

Here's the final standings:
1 Euro Treasure
2 Did Mizzou make the CBI?
3 Rock Chalk Jayhawks!!!!
4 Don't Mess with Sausage
5 Illini all the way ntschaub
6 Milled P The Rabbi
7 N(ot) I(ncluding) T(erps)
8 George Mason Dropouts
9 Xmid1990shardcoreX
10 The Boom Kings

(Your noble proprietor, who wrongly picked Georgetown and was left to root for Davidson, came in 12.)

IN other blog business I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the upcoming NXT Blogaversary and meet-up party that is coming up on April 19 at Dock Fore.

It's your chance to meet some new folks, find out who's commenting as who, and in general harass the "youth culture" blogger.

The good times will begin around 7 p.m., there should be some food and possibly, maybe, if you are good, some stuff to give away. Maybe if we have some excess Bracket-stravaganza T-shirts left.

Mark your calendars!

No full standings...just the top 11?? I can see the top 10, but I think the proprietor wanted to get on the list.

I have been foiled by Kevin Wack many times, but at least I dined with Matt Cooper....

F! F! I will miss the party because I will be in Chicago, poisoning the minds of the youth at a NU conference. Darn it! Can I have a bobblehead anyway?

Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the Monday Magazine.

If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture," covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.

Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer, redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life would sound like.

When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain America.

Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and what they do.
